After completing the Orzammar quest, Shale asked me some things about what happened, and I basically lied to him about everything. I sided with Branka, which would probably have pissed him off if he were there. So I lied and pleaded ignorance.
Shale didn't seem to indicate disbelief but left the party anyway. What's the logic in that, or is this some kind of bug?
Why did Shale leave my party?

Probably means your cunning was not high enough to pass the persuade check needed to successfully lie to her and get her to stay.

Next time take Shale with you if you want to see more about its story, and why it would respond this way. Some interesting nuggets will come to life. One of the great things about this game is you get to start over with a new warden and do things differently, see different stuff. For now, yes, Shale is gone. But there is always next time.
