I fit outside that generalization, and I'm certain I'm not the only one.

Let's not paint destroyers as the types who don't weigh consequences.

You being outside it doesn't affect what I said, I said Destroyers, not all Destroyers.

Someone that would be able to make a claim against this would be a Controller or Synthesiser who hates synthetics.

I always loathed the Geth, that didn't change in any playthrough. I used to sell Legion to Cerberus and blast it to Geth goo in ME3. Lately I've been keeping it alive, in order to destroy the Heretics, sided with Tali instead of resolving the fight and let it get fried in the suicide mission.

While this is USUALLY true, I think in the case of ME3, a very strong argument could be made that they had NO idea how this series was going to wrap up as they built up EDI as a squad active character.  Foresight and pre-planning were not the forte of this trilogy, after all.

Well, I generally don't make decisions in these games based on who I like or don't like. Can't stand elves; the whole "We are at one with nature, unlike you stupid humans" business just gets to me. Yet I haven't once betrayed the elves in DA:O, because from an in-game point of view, it just seems like such a jerkass thing to do for the kinds of characters I like to play.

Having said that, I really like the synthetic characters (at least in ME2; as others have noted, there's too much Pinocchio shenanigans in ME3). They (along with maybe the Rachni) are pretty much the only aliens in the game; everyone else is mostly just people with funny faces. I found the Quarian-related content, by contrast, to consistently be among the weakest material in the game, reaching its nadir with Tali's loyalty mission in ME2; just got way too tired of rescuing this character.

You have to rescue that damsel in distress three times in one game.

I know. People have a hard time parting with their delusions and illusions of power. Truth can be an ugly and difficult thing.

Can't speak for Cthulhu but I hold most of ME's xenos and synths with less regard than I do the goombas from Super Mario Bros.
