Legacy and MotA are both pretty fun and interesting so if you have points to burn might as well buy them

Yup, Legacy and Mark of the Assassin are both definitely worth getting, in my opinion..

If you like DA2 at all, then yes, they were both rather good.
Legacy is heavy on lore, with some fairly interesting details regarding darkspawn and the Grey Wardens (and is a great quest to take your sibling on). I felt its fights were over-designed, but they were interesting and varied (and fully staged, so no reinforcements raining down from the sky). It has content for all the companions.
MotA was less critical in terms of story, but it was an interesting caper-style adventure, with some neat vanity mechanics (a puzzle section, and a whole stealth section), a nice forest location, interesting new enemies (those little guys rocked), and more content for all the companions (including personal quests for everybody but Merrill, with special attention on Aveline and Isabela). You are required to take along a new companion, but with the way it's set up, it didn't really feel like a big limitation (some people don't like the way the story plays out near the end, but I wasn't bothered by it).
Both are very solid, and great improvements to some of the less successful parts of the main game.

Personally I found Legacy and Mark of the Assassin more enjoyable than the main game.
