The Qun reminds me of the Borg on Star Trek. I personally don't think I'd want to play as a member of it, but tal-vashoth would be rather awesome as a companion. Even a devoted Qunari might be good as a companion, but I really don't think a pc option for this would be worth the lost content we could have without it. (assets better spent else where)

That's just it, if it was the case of missing content, it would probably be actually less work, because they would have less to touch upon.

Tal'vashoth PC only in day one DLC (or a pre-order bonus)???

The whining and gnashing of teeth on BSN would be delicious:

"Having a Tal'vashoth PC included at no extra cost with the game is a divine right"

I'm sure Bioware learned from their mistakes, right guys? Now we won't get any day one DLC, that was made right after production was done and games were shipped.

Edited the title and a bit of the thread to add to what people mentioned throughout.

I'm still hoping the day one DLC is a Mabari hound Inquisitor.

Well, I'd love to see a Kossith, Tal'vashoth naturally. That PC is supposed to have especial hatred towards Qun and any kind of authority like Chantry, but at the same time most Kossith don't really like mages (unless they're rogue bas saarebas themselves - seems rare, but plausible).

The trouble with the term Tal Vashoth is that it can be applied to any race that abandons the Qun, despite the term, "True Grey," according to the Wiki. Otherwise I would have used that instead.

well, i agree that a Tal-Vashoth would be nice (you could discuss the Qun with him, without him/her defending it (like Sten and Talis) and learn more about the Qunari-People etc.)

as for the Qunari as a whole:

yeah, they are borg (without cybernetic-implants) that have assimilated communism and now seek to spread it to all the "heathens"...i don't like them and i would love to fight them on a grander scale (throwing them of their island and if they try to go "home" afterwards, i want to follow them, as i want to know if they themselves are only outcasts of a much larger society (rebells, exiled/banished people))

as for "lost content" - well, if i they would cut another companion, it would depend on the who and what (who is it (meaning: Name, Age, Organisation + Background) and what is he/she (class)?) - if they cut some noble with a boring backstory for example (like a Chevalier - i don't like those all that much) then i would love it (!) but if they cut someone i would think is interesting (mage characters (not counting Anders...at least not after DA2...in Awakening he was ok) are normally interesting (at least for me) or rogues (most of those have wounderfull backstories like Leliana (as much as i hate her chantry-love), Isabela, Zevran and Varric :) - if it was "another" warrior, i want to trade (i don't like those all that much, i normally decide on an MT at the start and then only take him/her along)

Well we already know of a potential companion anyway, as hinted by the trailers of the ox man. Unless they're completely different from the Qunari. I could be wrong.

With the update on race, do you guys think this topic has become more relevant? Or is it already too late?

You know, Bioware could pull a Richard move like capcom and release a "key" DLC to unlock the in-game content then say that it's being developed after the game is finished. Kossith Inquisitor seems interesting, but Bioware statistic showed that most people played as humans. For them to utilize their resources to make another race, they must allocate the resources from somewhere else for a niche audience. If enough people demand it, then I wouldn't mind for them to release it as a DLC to earn back some of the capitals.

People keep mentioning these statistics, but it all sounds like random assumption. Where is this sheet that I assume is similar to the one they posted after ME3?

Ehh those are the exact same statistics people used to rationalize not getting elf and dwarf. It's actually more relevant to them because we've never had the qunari option to know how popular it would be. Somehow I have a feeling it wouldn't be the least popular of the four options, if we had such a choice.

In any case, they'll add it if they add it, "niche" arguments notwithstanding as we've already seen with elf and dwarf. I'd be disappointed if they don't as they have a chance here to legitimately say they went even beyond Origins in options. But it's not a make or break, obviously. It's still great that we even have the options we do now.

Makes sense, though, I am curious to see what other people chose when it comes to various choices. I don't doubt it would be fairly popular too. Plus, being different from the usual, I can imagine a lot of people trying it out for the first time. Especially if they see it as a warrior class, which I think is the most commonly chosen. I could be wrong.

I think it's problematic.

"Filling in the gaps" is an important part of roleplay, and with elves, dwarves and humans things you assume about their environments and cultures are unlikely to be contradicted because they are purposefully familiar. It's the reason they are elves and dwarves and not some invented race, and the reason different regions have an adopted real world culture. We know much about Orlais purely from the accent.

The Qunari on the other hand are intended to be alien. We've explored, through characters much about their way of life, but mostly to illustrate how strange it is. I don't believe we've been given enough that we can fill in the gaps without a huge likelihood of being contradicted by future information. And that's a problem.

Perhaps as we become more familiar it will become feasible, but I think the air of mystery is an important part of what they are and represent.

You're not so far from the truth, actually. The Qun is partly inspired by Borg.

I wouldn't really say we're unfamiliar. At least those of us who've read the books, etc. I really see them as people with rigid customs not intended to change. But that's the Qun ideal, not the Kossith themselves.

Plus as pointed out by another person, we know where the writers inspiration came from as well.
