Indeed. There are worse people on every side. But yes, stopping the Qunari threat, should be a priority. But there are several ways of doing so. Many of them aren't even militarily. The different societies of Thedas could for instance start to develop themselves, such as to not appear so uncivilized to the Qunari. If Thedas starts to appear less barbaric and underdeveloped to the Qunari, the Qunari will start to think more highly of Thedas. As it is, they think they need to invade, because they want to improve the lives of the rest of Thedas. We simply need to prove to them, that this is not the case.

What?   You think all other societies should capitulate and appease the Qunari?   Seriously?   Why would any society or person ever want to willingly cater to such a threat?

"Eliminate your individualism or die" isn't a choice.   Its a call to war!   Trying to make your culture appear less barbaric to the most barbaric of civilizations is just kind of silly.

So you think jumping into an all-out war right away is better than at the very least trying some alternatives? The Qunari are by all means much more advanced than any nation in Thedas in terms of military strength.  War means you're going to throw thousands of lives away, no matter how you look at it. Our own characters may always be gods of destruction that can steamroll hordes of baddies, but I'm guessing your average human footsoldier would have a hell of a hard time killing a Qunari soldier.

Anyways, I dislike the Qun as a philosophy too and think it should somehow be contained. Still, it seems a bit foolish to discount the positive sides of their society just because it's morally repulsive as a whole.

On top of that, I will always plainly refuse playing a genocidal maniac. I helped the werewolves once with a homicidal warden character, but I just reloaded an earlier save (and eventually dropped the character altogether) because I was completely disgusted by such an outcome. I honestly can't believe people actually have fun roleplaying such a character, no matter how much you may hate the Dalish. So no, no wiping out Qunari for me in DA:I.

Why do I take pixelated murderiness so seriously? Beats me. I can't disconnect from my own world view during roleplaying games. A huge pain in the backside at times ...

Apparently you must fight fire with fire. The fact that they themselves are now that very fire they wanted to stop, is apparently not important, tossed aside or completely ignored :P

The problem is that peace only works when it is desirable by BOTH sides. There is no such thing as a unilateral peace. I certainly don't get the impression that peace with the Qunari is possible because they as a society don't actually believe in "peace" with other cultures. Their way is "peace" through domination. When you have such a foe, there really is only one outcome. Its just a matter of when.

As somebody who (tentatively) supports the Mage freedom movement, I don't have any real hatred of the Qun. Yeah, they're not ideal, but I bet all those born into peasant families with no real hope of advancement think the "freedoms" of the Chantry lands are that great, anyway

Yeah, women can't serve in the army, but the logic behind that is more pragmatic then sexist. The Tamassrans have a ton of influence, and the triumvirate has at least 1 female Qunari, if not 2, at any time. Plus, Ben'hassrath. (I didn't spell that right did I)

For the average citizen of Thedas, rule by the Qun would be more preferrable. People do crave order. I do think the Qunari is too controlling and treats Mages appalingly, but that's the view of somebody raised in a relatively liberal, wealthy country in the 21st century. If I lived in Thedas, I'd probably be pretty open to the Qun.

Also, for the record, war with the Qunari is a ridiculous concept. Even if the nations of Thedas somehow united, despite the veil tear, mage-templar war and other shenanigans, they still wouldn't be able to do better then fight the Qunari to a stand still.
