Hasn't the reason many aliens appear humanoid been addressed already? I could have sworn there was reference to "most successful higher lifeforms following similar evolutionary developmental patterns", possibly in a codex entry.

And besides, as other have mentioned something truly "alien" would be totally unrelateable to people. We wouldn't be able to begin to grasp their motivations or world-views, so interacting with those characters would be, for all intents & purposes, impossible.

I don't think there's been mention of such a codex entry like that at all. And what kind of logic would that make? I'm not too stringent on real science and logic so long as it makes a good story, but Humanoid forms have in no way been proven to be extremely succussefull, either in Mass Effect of the real world.

There is a real life theory that any aliens we might eventually meet will appear to be humanoid. Its meant to have something to with being the best course evolutionary wise.

No retcons! No changing appearances, I just want continuity. Only a minor portion of the 'hardcore' fanbase wants retcons anyway.

I'm surprised people were shocked by the Quarian face design when their look was so expectable from the start.

Didn't they retcon the Qurians legs? Not a lot but the posture seems to have changed fromME1 to 3

The original Quarian concepts had a much more human body(no bent legs, 5 fingers and toes). They figured out the final look in ME1. I don't see any difference in posture, maybe Tali had less bent legs in ME1.
