If you do something that gets you Renegade points, does that lower your Paragon score? And vice versa?
Basically, I want to know if I can play both Paragon AND Renegade in the Mass Effect series. The rules hold for all the games, right?

Paragon and Renegade points are separate meters. Putting points into one meter WILL NOT lower points in the other meter.
You can play Paragon and Renegade in all three games, but at some cost of not being able to use all Charm/Intimidate options:
1) In ME1, you can spend points into Charm and Intimidate talents, which can allow you to make all Charm or Intimidate options. But spending points into both meters will take away points from your power talents. Depending on what class you play and the game difficulty, this may or may not matter to you.
2) In ME2, Paragon and Renegade meters are tied to the choices you make, and the ability to to Charm/Intimidate is tied to how many Paragon/Renegade choices you have made versus how many Paragon/Renegade choices were available to you at the time. It can be a little complicated.
3) In ME3, you have one meter, but it shows a percentage of how much Paragon and Renegade points you have relative to each other and the maximum number of Paragon/Renegade points in the game. That sounds a little complicated, but as long as you have keep gaining Reputation you can perform all the Renegade and Paragon choices you want still be able to pass all the checks for Charm and Intimidate options.
