I was just reading over the wiki on the battle with the Collosus and was somewhat puzzled.
The Collosus is supposed to fix itself if it takes a certain amount of damage. I actually saw that the first time I ran into it since I lobbed a bunch of rockets at it from the room with the shutters only to see it fix itself. (mission failure!) After that initial mistake, however, I never saw it do the repair routine again. Since I figured out I was supposed to go down and talk with Kal'Reeger before fighting the thing I have never had much of a problem taking it out with standard weapons.
I go up on the balcony to the right and get off to its left side and procede to use powers and weapons to take it down. In all that time never once does it huddle up and fix itself. Why not? What changed? Does a paragon Sheppard have an easier time of it? Or is it because I have crossed some invisible line?

In all my playthroughs (about two dozen), I have never seen the Colossus fix itself apart from the animation that plays where Kal'Reegar explains the Colossus' repair protocol.
There is probably timer, whereby if you shoot the Colossus and it does not take any more damage after a certain length of time, then it will huddle up and repair itself. Kind of like how if you do not use tell Kal'Reegar to stand down, he will still live if you can kill the Colossus quick enough.

UGH! You guys are... lucky? Here with my paragon femshep the Colossus just love to turn into a cat ball for repair often. REALLY often. Maybe too much!
I have a soft spot for geths, but that poor thing got on my nerves, haha!

Maybe it also has to do with your distance from the Colossus? I usually make my way up the left or right side and pound it with weapons fire and powers. Maybe if you hang back to much (like cowards) it activates its repair protocol?

As far as I remember it started repairing once when I was almost at it's side and blasting on it. But before that moment I was really lost (gotta love first playthrough in a game like this) so yeah, maybe taking longer to attack make the thing bored enough to sleep... ERRR repair, I mean!
I will start a second pt soon, so I will see if with a bit more skills the Colossus will keep the "I'm bored, come later" behavior.
