If i was to rate all 3 games i would give Mass Effect 1 a 90 overall, Mass Effect 2 a 80 overall, and Mass Effect 3 a 70 overall. Mass effect 1 was my favorite due to it being a true and great  Action RPG and many other things but only reason i didnt give it a 100 is because there are things in both 2 and 3 that were either done better or great new ideas that i wish they had put into Mass Effect 1. Of course Mass Effect 2 would be my second and wouldve given it a higher overall but didnt due to the fact that you could see changes and it starting to go in a different direction then Mass Effect 1 and even though  it did bring some great improvements to the series and was closer to Mass Effect 1 then 3 with some real good new stuff it still felt like even though it went 1 step foward it also took 1 step back with alot of what made mass effect 1 great was missing or changed in ME 2.

Now with Mass Effect 3 I really want to explain the 70 because I have a feeling some people wont think thats fair or to low so here I go.with my reasons. It was Short ( Compared to other Mass Effect games ) Took me like 40 to 50  hours to complete (Including the DLC "From Ashes") By comparison I spent over double that on the original and on ME2 (Not including DLC either).Heavy weapons stripped from the game, no planet exploring on foot or with vehicles like mako and hammerhead, basically real short on content. Plus whats with not having any of the original squadmates really you only got Garrus and Liara all game every one else just pretty much made cameo appearances if you really think about it. Now there was some good new ideas and stuff in the game but at the same time they took away too much and the game was so linear that whatever little amount of decisions you could make didnt matter much unlike in Mass Effect 1 and 2 where decisions mattered alot. So really all the time i spent in Mass Effect 1 and 2 didnt matter much in ME 3 since the outcome was always the same no matter what npc you speak with or dialogue you have. Mass Effect 3 more or less felt more like a new game then a sequel or finale to a series.

The truth and bottomline is that  Mass Effect 3 fellt like it received the Dragon Age 2 treatment. Those who played the original Dragon Age know what im talking about and those who dont well it took me around 140 to 150 hours to complete Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2 well more like for 40 to 50 hours. It really seems like games are being shipped out now much lighter on content with a focus on EA/Bioware making money off of IOS games, DLC, etc. I really hope im wrong and this doesnt become a trend.

Its really unfortunate that such a great game ended like this and I love Bioware games but it really seems like once they joined EA they have slowly changed the way they develop games and i dont know if its EA or Bioware or just that this is want happens when you sign up with or join EA but i hope it dosent continue because i really like Bioware games.

Favourites: ME1 and ME3.

Least Favourite: ME2
I should note that i like ME2, just its my least favourite. it did nothing for the overall plot, and fighting mercs for like 75% of the game was annoying. Also the dumbing down of weapons and skills wasnt something good either. Also, i much preferred the ME1, crew and was dissappointed with their treatment in ME2 (VS especially). That being said, i did like a good amount of the characters, just not as much as the original crew. That, and the suicide mission and hub planets were cool too. Dialogue was good as well.

one other thing i hated, was working for cerberus and shepards death.
the latter was just a way to get shepard working for cerberus and get him away from the original crew. and that pissed me off

Favorite: ME3. It's not a story made from several largely unconnected segements like 1&2, it feels like one continuous story. Except for a few things, the plot satisfied my expectations and sometimes the import system worked wonderfully and finally gave us some consequences. I like how every side-quest contributes to the war effort, so that one time side quests in a RPG aren't strange.
The gameplay is by far my favorite, with an interesting character system, great combat, and the removal of almost all annoyances of the past (mini-games, companions only becoming useful after end-game missions, persuasion systems the punished role-playing).
And I really enjoyed the multiplayer. Never was an online gamer before it.
Least favortie: ME1. The gameplay is a castastrophe. The character system is uninteresting, with it's one-percent changes and heavy restrictions in the lower levels. The inventory is a mess, and as weapons and armor simply get better but not really different, managing the inventory is just work to keep up with the leveling. The combat is terrible, with enemies running aroud like headless chickens, debuff and biotic powers on both sides being overtly powerful and enemy balancing being really poor.
The side quests are repetetive in terms of gameplay, and their sheer number just doesn't fit the main story they aren't connected to. The vehicle has clunky controls and the worlds you drive on were either designed by a sadist or are random.
The story is ok, even if it has just as many problems as 2&3. But some of the companions are incredibly pale.

This pretty much sums up my opinion as well. ME 1 is my favorite. All games had some positive aspects and, at least, a bunch of very interesting, well-written missions and characters, I just wish the story and universe had remained more consistent throughout the trilogy.

Mass Effect 3 is my favorite because it's a lot funner to be a vanguard than in ME 1 & 2. (which is my favorite class in 2 & 3) and I just thought the story was more dynamic and fun to go through. When I played through the whole trilogy I just wanted to get through the other two so I could get on to 3. And also female aliens existed unlike the other two. :o

Mass Effect 1 is my least favorite, it just feels incomplete in comparison to the other two, and the whole enviroment felt more uninviting.

I would say ME2 but I'm not ignorant to the fact that in the perspective of a it being part of a trilogy it made the least amount of sense and accomplished very little if anything at all at pushing the story forward.

ME1 was okay though there were flaws in it though you could RP your Shepard pretty decently, so it made up for a couple things.

ME3 was trash, and I'm one of the few people who hate not because of the ending but other obvious matters such as Derperus. I'm actually apathetic to the ending because i just don't get it i don't get the starkid and to this day i still don't know whether reapers are sentient, sapient, or whatever. I never understood how people could have 40 page threads debating and discussing the endings.

I have a hard time picking a favorite for there are things I like and dislike about all three, so my favorite changes based on what I am wanting to experience that day.

I've been looking at the previous posts and I'm honestly surprised that ME2 is most people's least favorite and ME1 is the most favorite. For me, it's the exact opposite.

ME1 is my least favorite of them all. From the moment I played ME2, I fell in love with it. Great improvement in the visuals, the biotics, and the ammo & cross-hair shooting system won me over immediately. Then, to be introduced to the great cast of characters, even if only Tali and Garrus made a comeback, was amazing. I was reluctant to not having my original crew return, but when I got to know everyone's stories--and I felt they were much deeper than ME1--I fell in love with them more so than I ever did with anyone in ME1. I know most people found the loyalty missions like a drag, but I truly adored them as they let me really know the characters.

I loved the freedom working with Cerberus provided me. Not bound by Alliance protocol left me feeling like I could finally carry out my Spectre duties without the conflict of interest the Alliance creates in my mind. The practically unlimited funds which I felt Cerberus could give me upon request also provided me with mental freedom to do what had to be done.

The battle-bond which I felt developed between me and every single crew member in ME2 when we were preparing to launch the suicide mission was amazing. Meeting in the crashed Normandy to hash up a plan of attack and assigning roles felt incredible. I saw the work of earning everyone's loyalties and learning their strengths and weaknesses paid off when this part of the game rolled around. Managing to not let anyone die in my first playthrough topped it all off.

Story wise I am also im complete shock that people think it didn't provide much. Getting to know a great number of crew members boosted the series forward a bunch: Shadow Broker; Omega; Cerberus; Seeing the Geth in a whole new perspective thanks to Legion; Boarding the Quarian Flotilla; Discovering who/what the Protheans are/were. These are all great plot devices explored in ME2.

I will forever be in love with ME2 more than any of the other two parts of this trilogy.

ME3 just kind of ruined the working formula from 1 and 2. There's the abundance of autodialogue, the unexplained retcon of Cerberus being on par with the Sith Empire in terms of size and power, the total misuse of a number of returning characters (and in Miranda's case, rehashing entire plot threads), along with the utter garbage endings.

Both ME2 and ME3 are my most favorite of the trilogy.

ME1 is my least favorite. Don't get me wrong, I still love the game. But as a completionist, I find it very time consuming. There are so many side missions, minerals, and other things to look for. And all the side missions (Appearance-Wise) are repetitive. As someone whose first Mass Effect was ME2, I can't help but feel that way.

My favorite is the first Mass Effect. It was an homage of sorts to shows like Babylon 5, Star Trek, and other scifi tv series. But it was also its own unique setting with its own rules and story. I liked how the gun mechanics simulated how the technology was described. I liked exploring the planets. Being on the surface of a planet and having it not be a terraformed landscape ready for a suburb was fun. Every mountain was a challenge to defeat.

Mass Effect 2 was enjoyable but it was too much of a game and tv drama. It felt like the setting and its rules were applied after the story and game aspects had been written up. It felt like a "tour de realms". The story tellers came up with some cool ideas that they wanted to share with an audience, then made a larger story to tie them together, and then went to the setting to see how they could fit it around the story.

Mass Effect 3 was dead from the beginning. It took the worst parts of ME2, forgot about the setting from the first Mass Effect, and put the gameness at center stage. I remember when games did not have a story because it was technically impossible to have one in gameplay. The best you got was a booklet telling you what the story was. As technology improved game designers could tell stories in the game. Eventually stories could be told with the game. The first Mass Effect felt like it was further developing the ability to tell a story with the game. Mass Effect 3 felt like it was telling a story in the game. A step back. For Bioware, a company whose reputation is built on role playing games, that is not a good choice of actions when other companies are working on the development of mechanics that improve the storytelling and role playing in video games.

I like the depth of characters in ME2. ME3 loses points for the amount of auto-dialog and forced emotions. Shepard never felt like "my" Shepard.

I personally prefer the original over the other two i still play one and three to this day but i haven't touched Mass Effect 2 for months (i just play ME1, then gibbed the ME2 playthough and went straight to three). Just doesn't appeal to me like one or three.

Mass Effect is my favorite because of the exploration density in it's gameplay fused with a once in a while combat system (which is flawed, but hey what isn't) and how much replay value it has.

Mass Effect 3 also appeals to me because it's of course the end of the trilogy and it has more action involved with more intense pressure and suspense. Playing two just felt like i was doing chores with all that mining and loyalty missions. IMO

1 is fabulous once you get to the final few missions(Quite a few people I've spoken to in real life have said they couldn't get into the game at all), works best for me if you leave Virmire til the last mssion before the final fight. The mini games you get used to, the inventory system was a pain to work out but being able to sell weapons is a huge plus. It also has the most interesting story, and battling your way up the Citadel tower is always fun.

Before playing 2 again I wonder wether I really want to play all of the mini games and sit there planet scanning (though its quicker if you only scan rich planets) plus some of the loyalty missions are boring to play again. The gameplay is possibly the worst of the 3 from a combat point of view because of the amount of time you spend in cover. Despite this, it's my favourite of the 3 which is probably down to the fact that the suicide mission is brilliant in every way it makes it all worthwhile. The galaxy also feels a lot more colourful and exciting than in 1.

3 has gameplay almost down to a tee, I pretty much ignore the story and just enjoy the combat. I can't bring myself to finish the game now, I get bored around Rannoch and my main reason to play it now is for the dlc.I hope they get rid of buying fuel on the galaxy map (seriously, what's the point?) , and planet scanning, and bring back the option to sell weapons and mods as there are a lot of items you just won't use depending on your class.

So for me it would be

2 best, then 1, then 3

Favourite: ME2 (probably helped by playing it first, which is something I regret). It's got the setting and atmosphere and it's there to be explored. The same is true with ME1 but the clunky gameplay and repetitive planets put me off (as well as the less interesting characters).

Worst: ME3, even though I love MP. All three games have big issues at times but ME3 has them where it matters. There's enough rubbish in real life trying its best to wreck things I love, I don't want that in games too.

This is gonna be kind of off topic but i have an imporant question. I know ME 3 was rushed but I heard that only 25 percent of the original team that made mass effect was involved in the making of mass effect 3. Anyone hear about this because I was wondering if it was true?

I'm curious how you could seriously claim that ME 3 is shorter than ME 1.

I have playthroughs of ME 1 where I've collected literally every single rock and artifact in the Mako on every single planet, and I've still clocked in way under my standard playthroughs for ME 2 and ME 3.

I'm concluding that you're simply a liar who depends on ridiculous delusions to make his arguments.

When i read or hear someone saying that their favorite is ME3 and talking about how bad the gameplay or graphics are in ME1 I can understand that because if you like action/shooters then Mass effect 3 would be your favorite and you wouldn't like ME1 compared to ME3 especially when you like the type of game where graphics and gameplay/UI is usually is all you have to judge or look for in a game. If I was to look at ME3 with that point of view then i would think and say the same thing but that's not what it is or should be but just ended up being. If you really think about it business wise it would be smart to turn the game into more of a shooter because they want people to play the multiplayer which makes them money and true RPG fans normally don't care for or want multiplayer but care more about the single player so they needed to attract people who love online shooters.

ME3 IS shorter than ME1, unless you're including all of the DLCs. ME1 is longer by way of padding and Mako driving, but length is length.

Which is why the first game was out for a full 6 months exclusive to the Xbox 360 before it was released on the PC.

ok...here goes:

best game in the series (for me):

ME2 - why?

- characters (more interesting then the ME2 characters (with the exception of those that come back of course) not counting Liara)

- Loyalty Missions (they showed us much of the Universe and i liked that)

- Good DLC (LotSB!)

- Cerberus and TIM

- better gameplay then ME1 (also: i would have loved companions to have more skills - like in ME1 and 3)

- Normandy SR2 (i felt at home there...this butchery from ME3 is not my ship, i would love to rip all that Alliance Crap back out!)

=> Of course it had its weaknesses (like not furthering the plot...i mean, why would Sheppard, who knows of the reapers, hunt the collectors while not doing more to prepare (and secure evidence to convince the alliance, the council, the quarians and maybe even the batarians)?...)

then, second best:

ME1 - Why?

- i is the original

- it introduced us to the universe

- no thermo-stupidity (thermo-clips!)

- Saren!

- Mako (yes, the exploration etc. could have been done better, but the mako was fun to drive and it could take a punch...unlike some other vehicle from ME!)

=> First game in the Series and what an amazing game it was (hell the citadell got me to just walk around and listen to people, stare at the Ascension etc. :)

Last:

ME3 - Why?

- ending(s)!

- choices being thrown out!

- errand-boy feeling (we are sheppard and i feel like i am some nameless GRUNT and disconnected from the larger picture)

- Deus Ex Machina!

- Starbrat/Bratalyst

- Dream-Sequences (i don't know who wrote those, but they are TERRIBLE!)

- Linearity (this is no random-COD-Like shooter (or at least it should not be!), so why is it LINEAR like one?)

- no choices that really matter

- destroyed player agency (starbrat and the crucible)

...(i could write about this for pages on end!)

=> bad game (fun to play if you don't want story thought...maybe that is what they aimed for?) and a huge let down after investing so much into this series (that is why i wont buy the DLC - i got almost every DLC before (no alternate appearance packs, but story DLC and weapons) - for this game, i wont pay more for crap!)

greetings LAX
