I remember seeing this weird tip on the loading screen once, haven't seen it since though:

Hollowed out ravioli shells make ideal mittens for gingerbread men.

What do you think it means?

I forget what game it was, but after I died once, the following tip appeared on the screen:

"In order to avoid death, try not getting hit so much"

You know, for the longest time I thought the tips were lying to me. It took ages during which I went toe-to-toe with Brutes all the time until I think several months after game release, I got sync-killed by a Brute the first time.

That aside, the way how the tips are formulated and in fact grossly overgeneralized, they're more like "untips" anyway. Rue the poor player that takes them at facevalue.

I saw that tip before I saw my first Brute in SP way back in the when times. When I finally saw one on Palaven, I was ****in' my pants trying to dance around it because I thought it was just going to run me over with every charge.

Thanks a lot loading tips.

I like them. I think of them being recited in a burlesque show of some description.

I remember that one too, but I can't remember what game it was either.

I also like the tip about the reaper barrier engines in multiplayer.

I remember in Duke Nukem Forever (at least some part of that experience I haven't repressed) that one of the loading screens said something along the lines of "To not die, avoid bullets".

Edit: Here I found it. It was "When being shot at, try to avoid the bullets".

"When your life bar/meter/health reaches zero, you die."

There are several iterations of that one across many games I've played (and still play); still cracks me up every time.

To go with the bird-brained theme:

Reminds me of Firefall:

"Avoid bullets. Those are bad."

That Brute instantly-killing you thing is a myth. It only happens if you have Prosthetic and/or Limbs in your name. They give you free hugs, if it's anything else.

I've lost count of how many times a phantom has synced someone after her sword was broken.<_<=]

Phantom sync kill triggers are infinite duration until they cast cloak or vortex.

Ergo, if a phantom attempts to melee, procs sync kill (doesn't have a player nearby) then runs off / takes cover and later re-emerges THEN gets her sword broken... she is still primed for sync killing, and stays primed until she attempts and fails a sync kill, attempts and completes a sync kill or casts an ability which interrupts their regular attack / aggression cycle.

The key here is "attempt". The sync kill activates when the AI computes that the phantom has "attempted" to perform a melee attack, thanks to the cancelfire, the AI will randomly stop doing one thing in favour of another. While taking damage, a phantom can randomly decide to cancel their melee attack just one frame after they begin it, showing no animation but still potentially priming for a sync kill.

Bioware weren't kidding when they said sync kills were good mechanics which were "implemented wrongly".

Break a Phantom's sword so they will spam their handcannon even more and kill you from across the room.
