I guess the title says it all...my divd player won't recognize my Jade Empire disk, is there some solution to this? Also, I've had no problem installing other games, so It seems that JE is the only one not working.

Is this forum still in operation? Since we can't pm devs any more, I hope someone will answer my question. I tried the EA site to ask a question, but they said they don't cover Jade Empire.

Bioware / EA includes some hinky software on all of their disks that is often incompatible with various drives, forcing an assortment of work-arounds.  I had to install across my home network from an older, slower read-only DVD because none of their recent games worked correctly on my high-dollar, high speed Plextor burner drives.  Fallout NV and Skyrim from Bethesda were also problematic.

Many gamers find that the COPY functions are working better to transfer off the DVD onto the hard drive, and then from there, no problem with an install.

Good Luck, and sorry I missed your message the first time around!

Thank you Gorath Alpha, could you elaborate a bit about what the Copy functions are, and how to implement them? I don't know what you mean about transferring off the DVD to my hard drive.

My DVD player just won't recognise the Jade Empire disk.

I've had that happen as well.  I usually have working PCs available in three rooms here at home.  The hardware has not been as longlived lately, and failures have piled up when my finances were at their tightest.  There are only two right now.  But there are two, and there is a LAN across which I've had good success running installs.  It doesn't make any difference whether the remote system is actually powerful enough for a modern game, any second computer with a DVD drive works when you access its drive from the machine you want the install to go onto.

Two PCs from the last few years can have a peer to peer LAN across a direct Cat5 cable connection, so cajole a good buddy into bringing his/ her laptop over, find out that the DVD aboard it recognizes the disk's contents, and if it does, the cable is cheap enough, and various Wndows versions from XP onward automatically sense the connection and do the necessary adjusting with very little fussing from the people involved.

I have Jade Empire installed on my old pc, and it's really old! It's funny that my newer pc won't install it. I even tried installing the game on a portable hard drive, but it won't work because it still wants a cd in the player, and my pc can't recoginze that the JE cd is in. I've decided to wait until one of my friends, who is pretty good with computers can come over and maybe figure out what's wrong.

Thanks for taking the time to answer me!

Schalafi, if you do find a solution, please let us know what worked. Gorath's suggested cable connection might be worth a try.
