Before all the exciting news from Game Informer, I remember reading rumours that Inon Zur would not be scoring DA: I, though it has not been established if these are true or not. Regardless, I'd still be interested to see who your ideal choices would be to produce the soundtrack for the next game. My choices are as follows, with (arbitary) odds:

Olivier Deriviere
Olivier Deriviere is not a particularly well-known composer, so it would not be surprising if you haven't heard of him. He mostly scores obscure games such as Of Orcs and Men, and (ironically enough) the ObsCure series. His most notable work is probably Remmber Me. Whilst the games he's scored are usually recieved from a mixed to positive reception, his soundtracks are always highlighted as brilliant, with good reason.

He's scored a range of stuff, and has experience doing fantasy with Of Orcs and Men. Still, I doubt he's high-profile enough to be in the running, which is a shame. He's a brilliant composer and, unlike many in the business of video game scores, an avid gamer. For example, his battle music is written so it develops differently depending on how well the player does.

Desire for him to compose for DA: I -8/10
Likelihood of composing for DA: I - 3/10

Jeremy Soule
An obvious choice. Did a great job with the Skyrim soundtrack, and composed the famous main theme for Morrowind. Experienced and has worked with Bioware before. I'm sure he'd produce a good score, though I wasn't a fan of his work on KOTOR. I also think it might risk DA: I looking like a deliberate Skyrim clone if he was chosen to score it.

Desire for him to compose for DA: I -6/10
Likelihood of composing for DA: I - 7/10

Inon Zur
It's possible the rumours are rubbish. I think Inon did a pretty good job with the Dragon Age: Origins soundtrack, with the main theme and party camp music particularly stand outs. Still, I've found some of his music for DA: O doesn't really have much punch, and is easily forgotten. Particularly a problem with DA2; the only iconic bits of music from that game (for me) were the first 30 seconds of Mages, and Qunari on the Rise.

I still think Inon is a good fit for Dragon Age, though I think he will have to up his game from the meh soundtrack of DA2 if he scores DA: I.

Desire for him to compose for DA: I -7/10
Likelihood of composing for DA: I - 7/10

Austin Wintory
Journey is famous just as much for its stunning visuals as sweeping soundtrack. Austin Wintory spent a long period of time composing the soundtrack, and it really shows. One of the greatest video game soundtracks out there, the Journey OST is proof to anybody that Austin Wintory is one talented guy. Unfortunately, I don't see him scoring the game.

Desire for him to compose for DA: I -9/10
Likelihood of composing for DA: I - 5/10

Jack Wall and/or Sam Hulick
One area Mass Effect has always (imo) trumped Dragon Age in is the soundtrack. All 3 games feature scores that are brilliant in different ways. Jack Wall in particular could do a job in a more fantastical setting, judging by his work on Myst IV and Jade Empire, though I have a feeling him not returning for ME3 (and his subsequent comments) suggest he will not work with Bioware again.

Sam Hulick, though, would be a good candidate. A talented composer who is still not that well known. ALso has some fantasy experience from scoring for "Enclave."

Desire for them to compose for DA: I -8/10
Likelihood of composing for DA: I - 6/10 for Sam, 3/10 for Jack

Inon Zur. My secret hope is that the new schedule will let them go back and reacquire him.

I'd prefer not to see Sam Hulick do any of the music for DA.

Me. They should hire me. I just bought a broken synthesizer at a garage sale for $7.50 and I'm looking to break into the industry.

Sure, I have little to no musical background or experience, but what I lack in so-called "qualifications" or functioning instruments, I make up in heart.

I for one hope they just stick with Inon Zur, but do something reminiscent of his old stuff.

Nerdgasm would not begin to describe what would happen if they did.

Kirill Pokrovsky, Jeremy Soule or Alexander Brandon seriously, don't get me wrong i did f*cking like Inon Zur a lot before but i don't know what the hell he's been smoking lately but i've been rather disappointed.

I would like to see multiple composers for DA:I just like how Mass Effect did it with huge success. I think Jeremy Soule (Skyrim) and Sam Hulick (Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 EE) would do an excellent job as a team.

I liked the inon zur soundtracks, that said if he didn't com back, my pitch would be Oscar Araujo. He did the soundtrack for castlevania lords of shadow. I believe he is doing or has done the one for castlevania lords of shadow 2. I wish I could link the music to you all. Anyway it was an epic sound in lords of shadow that accompanied that epic game.

Falcom Sound Team JDK. Consistency? Pfft.

Seriously, I dunno. Jesper Kyd is my hope (he said he'd like to work with BioWare again) but apparently that's not currently in the cards. Jeremy Soule makes a good main theme but his stuff is very... conservative? Wintory's Journey soundtrack is a little artsy and overrated if you ask me. Inon Zur isn't bad. Jack Wall's Jade Empire and Mass Effect works are pretty impressive. Sam Hulick also did a good job, in that genre at least. Alexander Brandon did a great job with Mask of the Betrayer but that's pretty much all I've heard of him.

Of course there are some great Japanese composers and indie composers who I assume are not in the cards either, and some people who I'd mention out of nostalgia but don't know if they're actually active anymore.

Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. Just record new versions of public domain works. It'll save money and the music will be 1000% better than any other game soundtrack.

This guy: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2829448/

Yeah, his credits aren't fantasy related. But, he is really establishing himself in Hollywood right now, and it won't be too long before he is queued up for major film projects. I met this guy in a recording studio. He is a classical genius and one hell of a musician. Get him while he's cheap Bioware!

Inon Zur. And if Nobuo can adapt to the style of Dragon Age, then him, definitely him. He never disappoints.

Others? Well, sure, why not. I've yet to hear a bad composer for a video game. Music is usually good in the industry.

I really liked Inon Zur's score in Origins, and while it was lacking for DA2, I thought there were a few quality cuts to the soundtrack.

I remember an interview he did somewhere where he said he only had eight weeks to score the game, or some ridiculous schedule like that. If he got another crack at Dragon Age with some breathing room, I imagine we'd hear something as good as Origins if not better.

It's weird for me to see people suggesting different composers because Inon Zur has come to define the sound of Dragon Age to me. I can't picture it sounding any different than it does.

Based purely on that list, I'd prefer Olivier Deriviere. It'd be kind of fitting since Orlais is getting attention in DAI no? :)

Though I'm pretty sure at this point the composer has already been chosen, I'd have to go with Inon Zur on this. He did a good job on the previous titles, imo, especially DA:O. Other than that, I think Hisaishi Jō would be an excellent choice. Of course, many of the others posted in this thread could also work. There are several great composers out there. :-)

I wouldn't go as far to say I've heard a bad video game OST, but there are some that are just...there, without really significantly enriching the experience. DA2 and Morrrowind are examples.

Why thank you. I wrote it late at night, so there's probably some typos. This is my first post in a Dragon Age Board. I used to lurk the ME boards, but I can't get onto my old account with my games registered atm. :\\

I've always assumed Inon was rushed for DA2. Whereas DA:O had pieces like The Betrayal and the Chantry Hubris which actually were scored for scenes, DA2 was just a ramshackle collections of tracks that didn't really correspond to anything. It also lacked  direction; why on earth is Fenris the only character in both games to get his own theme?

The Tavern music is the best thing on that OST, imo. I love it, but I think DA2 needed more then good tavern music lol.
