The biology doesn't matter. Not really. There have been comments straight from the devs that no one's going to die because of an inter-species relationship. That's what matters.

Plus, there's that "talk it out" option mentioned in the ESRB.

I'm confident that Tali and Garrus are romance options. If not, so be it. I'll be upset, but they won't be losing a fan or anything.

Edit: People tend to forget that any Tali romance would be an acknowledgement of the character's fanbase. Garrus' fanbase is comparable in size, and we're just as loud. I see Thane as a bridge for those curious about alien relationships. Jacob - human, Thane - extremely humanoid alien, Garrus - alien. Some gals aren't willing to go all the way.

On the human side, Subject Zero and Jacob are confirmed, and we have enough video footage to say Miranda's one, too. As for aliens, we only have Thane confirmed.

Tali seemed to be heavily supported. Not to the extent of Miranda, though, so it's hard to be one-hundred percent sure about what's going on with her.

Garrus, however, I am not so sure on. I actually would bet money that he isn't going to be romancible. If Garrus was going to be one our options, I doubt they would have made Thane one, or made the entire Drell species one giant bone thrown to us gamer gals. That, and I don't think the Devs would make FemShep have only one human option.

I think Casey said somewhere that there are 3 romances per gender (including your ME1 LI).

That being said, it's probably:

MaleShep:
Tali
Subject Zero
Miranda
(because Samara's the only one I haven't seen in a romance-related cutscene)

FemShep:
Garrus
Jacob
Thane
(could anyone REALLY imagine Grunt/Mordin/Legion as a romance?)

Although, I'm assuming that there are no same-sex romances, so for all I know, this list could turn out to be the other way round...Image IPB

EDIT: God, I seem to post this in every romance thread available.Image IPB

It could be Male Options: SuZe, Miranda, Tali

Female Options: One of the women, Thane, Jacob.

I haven't been paying attention to this, but have they said there are 6 romancable characters, or options? There's a big difference if one or two swing both ways.

The only interspecies relation that
makes any semblance of sense is Asari. Anything else...well the biology
would be too foreign.

Sex isn't the be-all and end-all of relationships. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie] But I suppose I just want a doomed romance to satisfy my gloomy outlook.

Also note that the 3-LI limit is not set in stone and can't be taken as 100% correct, according to Casey. If I recall correctly. :P

I even wonder what the Asari biology is that any other species, regardless of sex, can produce offspring. That fade to black in the first game leaves many secrets...

Garrus as a romance option?  While a romance with Liana was available, why shouldn't one with any other species be?

Did you listen to the conversations and codex entries? That explains why.

Well, as long as it goes for reproductive romances, platonic ones are a whole another scale.

By the way, just to add the other side of the coin: No inter-species relationships, please. Brr. Or if there will be any, I demand M/M Krogan action!

It certainly been an imporant part of my relationships. It's just a human urge that I don't think you'd satisfy with a bony scaly turian or someone who would die from the bacteria on my skin.

Look I know if I lived in the ME universe I'd have no problem going after the Asari, well, because I'm a straight man and the biology works out in the end.

I just don't see the sexual attraction (an imporant part of a romantic relationship) of a Turian. I certainly could imagine myself becoming friends with one, or relying on them like a brother/sister...but there is no part of them that comes off as attractive to me.

Oh, I don't dispute that. Not at all. But you can still live without it.

The biology of the Asari is unique in it allows Asari to procreate with other species, including humans but the Mass Effect lore does not restrict sexual intercourse between species and other humans.

Most of the species in the Mass Effect universe with the exception of the Hanarr, Elcor and a few others all have some superficial similarities.

This is presumably because evolution favors bipedal species.

If species from different worlds can have similar anatomy like two eyes, mouths, two hands, two legs then it wouldn't be too far fetched for Tali to have a place between her legs for Commander Shepard to fire his photon torpedo.

I wouldn't be surprised that the Krogan method is traumatic insemination...

Here's the deal, we don't know if Tali has two eyes or a mouth.

Ahaha I was going to say nobody wants some Krogan action?

Tali might be cool, she does have those awesome wide hips :)

I think Krogan society is actually hinted at being matriarchal. At least in the post-genophage era.

I think it's stated somewhere that fertile Krogan women are held in extremely high esteem and that many Krogan will fight and risk death to earn the honor of mating with her.

Tali was the only one from the first game that I personally liked. With Ashley and Liara, it was more about "we'll probably die tomorrow.....what the hell." If Tali ends up being an LI in ME2, then I guess I'll have to go back to ME1 and kill Ash and snub Liara.

A "bony scaly turian" would satisfy me, even more so if it were one with the personality and looks of Garrus.

Actually, yes, we do.

In Mass Effect: Ascension, they stumble upon a quarian who is not wearing his envirosuit. He has two eyes, a nose, and a mouth. Very humanoid. There was differences, yes, but they are something along the lines of the humans and asari when it comes to biology.

Nice try, though.

I love both Garrus and Tali but to me it seems a bit silly with some of these interracial relationships. I mean, I get how you could have a romance with an Asari but a turian? Or with a quarian? They seem to alien to me. Maybe I'm just to stuck up on the physical part. There's obviously more involved than physical concact in a romance. Still... I just can't get past it!
And I know, none of them have been officially confirmed yet as a LI.

Quarrians seem too alien for you?  The people who just seem to be odd fingered and toed humans in spacesuits?

That's the thing that I really don`t get about some of the non-tali comments. The only thing truly different about her is the number of fingers on her hands, and the shape of her feet.

Some people have even said her knees bend backwards, which is untrue if you've ever seen her walk.

I am almost certain there will bea  tali romance, but I doubt it will be physical. That's jsut fine with me too, as IMO, feelings are more important than sex in a relationship.
