Ha. Everyone's so excited about being an Elf or a Dwarf. Meanwhile I'm sitting here thinking to myself "Is *anyone* happy to be just a human character?!" Ouch for being in the minority.

Most players played as human in DAO, and you can't blame the origins since apparently Amell was more popular than Surana even before DA2.

There was a little scar on the male human as well. It'll make me very, very happy if it's in the game.

I usually play a human character first, in games that give me choice, sort of as a baseline, and I also like the idea of being the "everywoman" who happens to fall into crazy circumstances.  And if it makes more sense for the story to be about a human character, I will find myself compelled to make that my "canon" playthrough.

I do love elves and dwarves, and look forward to making them again, but I know I'll be doing my human run first, and that will probably be the character I identify the most with.

I am not sure which race i will play first, i want to play all 3 races at the same time, why cant i have 3 bodies.
Plus we will have differences in the game depending which race we play so this is great.

Sounds good to me.  I like the generally conservative rhetorical angle they are taking in all these videos except for the first one.  It makes me feel like I can trust it a bit more because it's not just 150% PR talk for mainstream gamers.  It's also not full of unrealistic declarations of awesomeness and agency and whatnot.  This is precisely the kind of dialog Bioware needs to keep engaging in to rebuild trust IMO.  (Well, and they need to deliver a genuinely good game obviously.)

That's kind of the point.  Your arguing against yourself.  You don't care about races...what else is BioWare working on for the next year that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to that you do care about that other people...not so much?

You don't really think extra races is the only card they have up their sleeve? <_<

Making a strong character driven story that makes sense, which the people who made those bit*# threads about playing as a human and working with the Chantry don't care about. I don't know what they want other then maybe having their own opions proven as 'fact' ( I assume that is some of them, the rest  I don't know).

The rest they have up the sleeve is being like Skyrim (for lack of a better/more well known term)

Um, considering those "loud, whiny fans" define "better" as including dwarf and elf PCs, your dubious assumption "what I want = better"  is no more meaningful a point for Bioware to consider than theirs.  Your opinon is just as much subjective BS as theirs is.

I want Bioware to have faith in their game not to change because people are whining one way or the other. I know my opinions are bs, but if their's get listened to why shouldn't mine.

How does adding race selection suddenly take away the possibility of the game being character driven? How would the story suddenly not make sense if you play as a dwarf?

I guess it's a testament to how well received the announcement was overall that it took this long for someone to go on a tear about it.

edit: "on a tear"? What English do I speak? <_<

Because Bioware actually does get to make choices and they decided what kind of game they wanted, which this time apparently includes races?  Why is Bioware only "not having faith in their game" when the vision of the game doesn't line up with what you want?

Hey, guess what? You can still play a human character. That's what YOU can do when the game is finally released. They haven't removed that feature at all. You're just gonna have to wait one more year to actually do it.

And those people that wish to play an elf or dwarf can play those races now. It's a win-win.

Your "opinion" has never been ignored. Our opinion WAS ignored up until this announcement. Stop being a self-entitled A-hole.

My god, it feels like Mike Laidlaw is really conservative about what he promises and what he says. and I like it!

After you all complain when something is said that doesnt come true, I dont blame him.

Well, stuff that is said now is one thing - as long they are open about things that change, don't work out, are removed etc. all should be good. I appreciate the attempt not to completely overhype things, tough, cause that really didn't work well with DA2 and ME3. It's definitely not entirely the fans' fault that they've become very cautious about pre-release statements...

But yeah, so far things are looking rather good! Posted Image

I enioyed being just Human in DA2 but...Hey, I won't say no to options, and I never turn down an option to get my Dwarf on. I wonder if we're going to have multiple VO's for the main PC then? Hmm, something to think about.

For me, I preferred Amell because the game recognised him/her as a mage more, whereas Surana, the focus was more toward them being an elf. For instance, I love freaking Jory out telling him I am a mage, or the rev mother in redcliffe recognising me as a mage. As an elf mage those options wern't there.

I don't care about race i play human only frankly i think the whole race thing is a waste of time which they could use doing something else but got to make the fan service give the fanatics what they want so they don't have a hissy fit.

I am so excited to be able to play as an elf and a dwarf again. I was okay with just playing as just a human since I was fine with that in DA2 and the ME series, but I'm glad it's back. I can't wait to play a kickass female dwarf again. My DA:O dwarf commoner was my favorite character.

Also, I love the redesign of the elves. They look much, much better than in DA2 (or the concept, anyway).

So people are actually against the return of multiple races?

I'm not against the return of multiple races for as long as it doesn't take way the quality of the story. If you re-watch the interview at the very beginning Mike Laidlaw mention that multiple races will come back at the request of the fans. This has NOTHING to do with the story, just to please the fans, thats all. On 0:20 Mike essentially said that because of the return of the multiple races that his team essentially has to spend more time and money developing armors that will accommodate each race when that time could be well spent on developing other things like better AI.

I will have to pray to the Maker that the game doesn't suck over a few request from fans wanting to play as an Elf or Dwarf.

If Bioware delayed the date of the release, that's precisely because of multiple race back. Otherwise it wouldn't have changed as much. That is at least what I understood from what said Darrah. So I don't see how we could think " time could have been spent on developing blah bla blah ".
