This is like really, really good news.

See what happens when you have a nice long development cycle as opposed to a truncated one?

Good things.

On the other hand:

Duke Nukem
Half Life 3
:P

People really need to stop using Duke Nukem for comparison.  If you did research you will find that it was in development, then cancelled and became vaporware before it was picked up again.

And it should have NEVER been released to begin with because most people under 23 did NOT know who the hell Duke Nukem was.

Half Life came out in 1998. Half Life 2 came out in 2004. They are considered CLASSICS.     Half Life 3 will come out and it will sell and become a classic too.

Is it actually part of the lore that elves can't grow beards? Fenris says they don't, but Hahren Sairel seems to be starting...

Sarel's my go-to example for existing elves with facial hair (I brought him up when championing this cause for DAII), and Fenris could seem a bit stubbly (especially in his concept art). Yet we've never had the option, and there's never been an elf with more than just stubble that I recall. Already in the race previews this time around, the dwarf has a full, majestic beard, the human has a thin goatee coming in, but the elf is still clean.

Denying elves the right to be rugged and masculine. For shame, BioWare.

TL;DR
Stop assuming so much and don't be selfish. More people play these things, you know. :wizard:

Edit: Got ninja'd by hhh89 but leaving it here as it's still relevant.

So what your saying is other people can claim the game is bad if they don't like it, people in the multi race thread and all those thread about being 'forced' to work with the Chantry, but I can't?

Where were you when people made all those whine threads at the start of year? Why didn't you tell them to stop being selfish?

Well I have to say I'm glad they reverted from the unnecessarily limiting human-only perspective and, you know, actually allow people who buy the game to have a modicum of choice of who they'd want to play.

I'm still not over the disappointment of the second game in the series and won't be preordering, but this was a nice piece of news coming from Bioware and I'll give them credit. They did not have to do this. Gaider said something in the interview about fan feedback prompting this decision, but I know I was in the minority saying the lack of racial choice would be a *major* disappointment.

So what your saying is with out race choice every game play is exactly the same:huh:

And even though they back fliped in a way you want you are still not happy?

I never said that. The reasoning those people have for claiming the game will be bad is that it doesn't align with what they expected it to be, and given Bioware's new "show, don't tell" attitude those people are in the wrong for assuming anything about the final state of the game. It's ridiculous that because the next game lets us command "The Inquisition",  they outright assume we are forced to work with the Chantry because (in-universe) there was an organization a thousand years ago who had the same name.

Who says I didn't? You don't follow everything I post and therefore have no idea what my opinion is.
This is not something specifically applied to you alone. I condemned the attitude those people showed the same way I condemn yours.

If people show a desire for a feature to come back and show that interest by actually using valid arguments such as races improving player choice and role-playing possibilities I fully support their claim.

What I don't support and actually find quite irritating is those who come out of nowhere telling Bioware that they shouldn't include feature X because they don't find it relevant and the resources and time necessary to implement said feature, could have been used to make a better game (for them) in other areas.

"You don't ****** off the Dwarf fans."

xD, oh Mike, you make me lol.

ETA: In other news, I'm really liking the approach BioWare are taking for their marketing. It's toned down, less hype-trash, no more "awesome button." It feels natural, unlike that contrived artifical bull**** we got with ME3/DA2.

Well, we have over a year til release. I'm expecting the marketing to ramp up and going with catch phrases once we reach a certain time. You have to advertise your baby to the crowd that doesn't lurk on forums/gaming sites. They need to see things go "boom" and everything being "epic".

I love the video and I love a lot of things I am seeing.

I will however remain bit careful and hope bioware delivers. When they promised to bring more RP back to Mass effect with ME3 ...Well they did screw up that. A lot more auto dialogue is not what most of us ( so I like to think ) wanted :(
So maybe Dragon Age will go down the same dark path ._: Oh well! Best be prepared for the worst as they say.

I'm curious if they'll hire different voice actors for the elven and dwarven protagonists, or if the voice actors will be the same ones for each race.

If the first is the case, it will open a whole new road of possibilities in a similar direction for the next Mass Effect game...

No, I would not care as it would show more backbone then caving to the 'fans' like they did. I was fine with things how they were, I dislike pointless change, espically change driven by baseless complaints based upon nothing more then the name!?

After two games which failed to get as wide an appreciation as their old games it's time for a bit of self reflection, not pointless machismo and backbone.

Having different races and backgrounds makes it very difficult for developers and writers to get in a "we are telling a story, you're just along for the ride" mindset. I think this is an important change for them and a necessary one.

they'd need... six voice actors, two for each race. I'm curious to see what they will do with it.

They have the assets to make the male playable, considering there's at least one Qunari in the game already.

I'm really hoping for at least one other major Qunari, preferably female.

If they can make that happen, then the only obstacle to making them playable is the in-universe explanation.

No they don't.

If the character is a city elf/top side dwarf/ human born in the same city or even country, they will have the same accent.

They can also just manipulate the pitch and tone of the VAs' voices to sound different for each race. Or use filters.

But that often come off sounding false. Besides with the 'only survivor of a Town' thing that is the pitch so far, I think that Topside dwarf/City elf/human from same city is a good bet.

Anyway only two voice actors are strictly necesarry. More is of course welcome.

Sten thought for himself a bit.

But some people use Qunari to refer to the race, not the philosophy. The race does not require adherence to the philosophy.

Honestly, don't know why we need 6 VA. Two for all of them is enough. In my native language anyways, there aren't accents. Merril didn't have any. So for me, it doesn't change anything.

There is no chance in the wide wide world of their being 6 voice actors for the main player. ZERO chance.

Unless they are Tal- Vashoth, every Qunarri believes.........they do not see any other way of living( not even Sten after all the time he spent with the warden.
