:Following that, Legendary's slate of projects -- Mass Effect, Warcraft, Hot Wheels, etc. -- will be distributed by Universal Pictures, which inked a partnership deal with Legendary last month.

You really think they'll get the budget to do something on that scale any justice? You can't cram over 100 hours of dialogue-heavy gameplay into 90 mins and expect any good to come of it. Aside from that, game to movie adaptions have been ropy at best. For every passable Hitman or Silent hill? Bloodrayne, Super Mario brothers, Street fighter, dead or Alive, DOOM, Postal, House of the dead, Alone in the dark, Far cry, Tekken, Tomb raider etc etc At best you can hope for some sort of quirky made for TV type b-movie, at worst, a turgid, schlocky mockery of the source material directed by some thundering pile of beef that refers to video games as "sonics and nintendos and whatever" using special effects Tom Baker would be ashamed of and writing as bad as, well, Priority Earth.

Mass Effect Paragon Lost could be a prelude of the terrible movies to come.
I personally believe a TV show would be the way to go, each season based on the specific game, season 1 ME1, season 2 ME2 & season 3.ME3
They could include all aspects of the game right down to the side quest story's.
Just my opinion though.

Even if they make a trilogy of movies they still won't be able to cover every point in the games and will even have to cut out main points. Also they will have to canonize everything and choose between having a male or female and if they do male, the feminists might go crazy. They will also have to redo parts of the games to make it more appealing or "better written" but they might fail at that.
Also some people, like myself, will not want to see a fully cinematic version of the same thing we spent over 100 hours on. We already know the general plot/ending and will feel alienated when "our" Shepard is not being shown.
What they should do is find another story/plot that has not been fully covered to make the movie on. That will avoid having to cover what already been done, canonizing decisions/characters, or badly representing parts of the current ME stories.
Also it will be after the "Warcraft" movie so we will be able to see that game to movie adaption and how it is handled before the ME one.

For those decrying the impossibility of cramming ME1 into one movie--first, though that was mentioned initially as the intent, there has been some indication of backtracking from it. I suspect they're exploring other options in addition to a translation of the game. Second, the key to translating something from one medium to another (From anything to anything) is not exact replication but satisfying approximation. The LotR movies, which are generally regarded as the best movie translations of recent memory, are not anywhere near using pages of the books as scripts. They are approximated to a point where they feel right in the new medium.
Point being, an ME movie doesn't have to capture every single moment of ME1, if it chooses to translate it. It has to capture the feel of ME1, in both message, journey, and look. Shepard would still have to hit the highlights of their adventure, but they wouldn't need to include the minutia of every single event from every mission.

Maybe the movie could focus on the war on earth for example? Tell a story of how the local heroes helped save lives while Shepard was rallying the galaxy. And maybe the movie could finally show the high EMS war assets at use? And then there'd be a bright multi-colored light in the sky that'd end the movie in a snap? That last sentence was not humor. The ending could even have "an end, once and for all" playing. How cool would that be? Awesomesauce cool!
But, yeah, the movie will be about the goodygoody paragon maleShep. I can live with that and still enjoy the movie. But would be better without Shepard, just saying (or if with Shepard, use my ren femShep for the part, thank you!)

The info that Legendary has the ME movie rights is old, but Universal being the distributor is news. Having a distributor means the project may be on track.Zakuspec089 wrote...

No. All you need it someone writing good script, someone directing that script well, some decent cast and crew. Video game adaptations just weren't fortunate enough to get these yet. But there's no rule that "you can't make a good movie based on a video game". You could make a great movie about paint drying, it's all about writing, directing, cast/crew talent and execution.Femlob wrote...
Are people honestly excited for something that can only fail? Are the dozens of game-to-movie adaptations that crashed and burned in theatres and the box office not proof enough that this never, ever works?
That being said, please NO Shepard and NO ME1-story adaptation.

Just because there is little to none good game-to-movie adaptations that succeeded doesn't mean there will never be one. This could be the first, however unlikely, Legendary Pictures has not put out a movie that truely failed yet. You may not have liked a movie or a few of them but most did really well (box-office wise). Also Legendary Pictures can finally put out their first horrible movie with ME but we should just wait and see.
As long as it is a NEW story and the director/writers are good and familiar with the universe, it could work.
