Deathblows and finishing moves definitely need a return in DA:I. I've seen a few posts suggesting them but never a thread. The deathblows in DA:O provided some very satisfying moments, and the finishing moves for dragons and ogres were filled to the brim with awesomeness. It's sad that there was a distinct lack in DA2, but DA:I needs to revitalize them and fix any DA:O problems with them (I needn't say how awkward it was to get finishing moves against Wolf enemies in DA:O). Since it seems like we're going to be facing some pretty massive demon enemies, this is all the more reason to up the ante on the finishing moves as well.

Eh, I could do without them. It's really annoying when in a critical part of the fight, you need to be doing something to keep your party alive so you can win the fight but instead the computer decides you need to riding an Ogre like a rodeo.

I don't see the need. They're purely cosmetic and add little if anything to gameplay, except when they prevented a character from acting.

Just create a toggle or a slider of sorts. A few DAO mods threw the percentages from 100% to 0%

There can't be toggles for everything.

Toggles is definitely becoming the biggest buzzword on the BSN.

In any case, they take a lot of time to make and I feel they're probably at the near bottom of what I'd like development time to be spent on.
Nevermind the fact that, despite looking cool, they can be quite detrimental to the game. I remember one game over in DAO due to the fact that Alistair was locked in an animation killing a generic ogre which left a legion of Hurlock and Genlock to turn my sorry rogue ass (and Wynne and Leliana's) to mush.

I like it, but I could see how they could be annoying. I remember how Alistair was busy stabbing the ogre while Morrigan get swarmed by a bunch of darkspawns. It's fun, but it hinders the gameplay.

P.S. Damn, Another person had my problem.

Then just change the finishers and make them quicker. Plus not every enemy needs a finisher, ony the most common enemies.

Just using hurlocks as an example:

1-handed sword users could swoop in for a clean decapitation (stab-to-chest followed by off-hand decapitation for dual-wielders). 2-handed sword users could bisect them at the waist. Dual-dagger-wielding rogues could get a few quicks stabs in, followed by slicing the hurlocks throat.

It's visually impressive, and none of these moves would take more than 2 seconds to actually pull off.

I agree, they should be faster. By the looks of it, DA:I will hopefully have a mix of DA:O's power and DA2's speed, so it works well.

More like DA2's speed toned down

But yea I would like finishers/death blows back. Maybe not every enemy though

I preferred DA2s way, more importantly, Legacy and MoA personally, just get rid of the exploding bodies except for certain spells(walking bomb for example should exploded the body into hoop)

The Jello enemies definitely need to be removed unless the circumstance warrants it (blasting powder, walking bomb, etc.)

The exploding corpses in DA2 are bugged (and are only supposed to trigger on crits, which is hardly new to many games).

Watching enemies burst like blood balloons when I poked them with a dagger was the best part of DA2.

Criticals were handed out like candy in DA2, which was an issue. Hopefully it's fixed as well.

I didn't even take the 'Bloody Mess' perk in Fallout 3.

There, I said it.

tbh, that nice, satisfying crunchy sound as you shove a battleaxe in someone's face and watch them topple over lifelessly is far more satisfying and entertaining than watching them explode...Assassin's Creed 2 had some of the best killmoves, for real.

I'm partial to the polearm throat-stab followed by a desperate death-gurgle.

And then dumping the body off a church steeple into a crowded marketplace.

I'm fine with Deathblows as long as they are limited to Boss Fights.

As much as I know people around here are touchy about this, I think they could look at Skyrim. Skyrim has deathblows, but only for the very last enemy in a fight. That way there is never an issue where the game steals control over your character leading to issues in the fight.

How I miss the days when Arcane Warrior Wynne would finish High Dragons in a brilliant display of acrobatic maneuvers.
