So this comes from me who loves movies that can truly scare someone. To me, gore fests and jump scares don't really do the trick to me. Sure, they startle you at first, but in the end it doesn't have an lasting appeal. What really fascinates me is an movie that can send my hair up with simple and yet effective features, those kind of movies were the simple unknown, or that creepy moment you totally missed comes to haunt you right after. To me there are no movies that can get me the most then those that play with our fears.

So, I would like to ask, wich movies that you saw in your childhood that truly scared you?

Here are some of mine:

Ok, it's not like this movie scared me, but some parts of the second renaissance left me so incredibly disturbed, I can't even describe it.

When I was a kid, I didn't had the guts to watch the whole thing.

For me it was the 1958 version of The Blob. Had me checking every crack in my room before I could get to sleep at night.

These days not much bothers me, but certain movies give me headaches so I don't keep them around.

For me it was Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte (I think this was the movie). Mainly because my sister was watching it and I was really young and only walked into it during the scene where the woman's hand is cut off. Freaked me the hell out (I'd never seen anything like that before) and I had nightmares for a long time after that.

Other than that, I can't recall much that scared me like that one did.

An American werewolf in London.
I was maybe 6 , and my grandmother had a thing for horror movies.
My grandparents just had their first VCR , so it was Horror movies all day long.
Zombies , demons ,vampires ...
I was scared but the werewolf one really did terrify me.

I once used the tube in London and I was sweating ...and it was like 15 years later.

OMG Aliens.

First time I saw it every scene where that motion sensor was going off and you were waiting for them come out scared the hell out of me. Then the scene when they ended up being in the ceiling. I went to bed and I just kept having nightmares about hearing that damn motion sensor and Hudson counting down distance. Then Aliens would come out of the ceiling or the floor, didn't sleep all night.

When I was a kid my mother forbid me to watch The Exorcist, so of course I watched it. That movie scared the **** out of me. I woke my mom for two weeks straight just to ask her if my heart was still beating. She was not amused.

Pretty much everything scared me as a child, so watching horror movies was not something I was really interested in.

There were a lot of commercials that terrified me, as did the occasional production company logo at the end of a show.

Here's one of each: the CBC Radio commercial from 1988. Rather Pythonesque.

The Bedford Falls Company Logo. Apparently I wasn't the only kid afraid of this, if you go by the comments.

I remember seeing the ring when I was 12 years old and getting scared as **** about it, and the creepy eyes. I had even seen the remake to the fly by that time and the ring and wasn't nearly as scared of those, I just thought they were monster films and monsters weren't real. That film though? I had to bunk with my brother for a few days after that.

I thought I wasn't scared of anything else, but than the grudge came out, and than I was afraid to close my eyes in the shower for a week.

Came here to say this. For some reason it made me afraid to sit on couches for fear of being stabbed through them, not sure if that has anything to do with child's play, but it is connected in my mind forever.

Around 85 I think, I was 6. I couldn't poop for months and months after seeing that cover. Didn't even see the movie, the cover itself was enough.

There's this horror movie came out in 2007. Kid or no, I cried at the ending of it.

I do not watch horror movies anymore BECAUSE of the ending in that movie.

The movie is called Freakshow.

watched it via VHS with my uncles several years later...

There was another movie. A haunted family go to a cursed three level or 4 apartment in a small Island and scary things happen to them. I don't know the name.

Earnest Scared Stupid. When the kid's in bed and rolls over AND THE TROLL'S RIGHT THERE. My parents had to turn it off because I was too scared to get up and do it myself.
