Or just skip Swarms and play him with a team full of biotics who can detonate all your primers.

I find Collector is too OP for most Gold match waves. I feel kind of bad when everything is dying so fast that my teammates don't get a shot in. And I'm bored if I just stand around purposefully doing less. So I don't play him much anymore.
Agree. He is ridiculous

It ignores the Dark Sphere cooldown rather than the SS cooldown doesn't it?megabeast37215 wrote...
Nuke: You can hide the Seeker Swarms cooldown inside of a Dark Sphere detonation... This will let you cast Dark Sphere, cast Swarms, detonate Dark Sphere and incur only one cooldown. Makes using Swarms as detonators less prohibitive.

Well I have soloed Platinum twice with him, so pretty damn sure. The latest was last night.Flambrose wrote...

In addition to mistaking Ascension's additive bonus, you are overestimating Dark Sphere's DoT. The listed damage isn't DPS, it's the total over the alloted time (actually less due to glitches even). The DPS is really bad.
The DPS is enough to kill a Platinum level husk without detonation which is a 1200 plus health. It's free damage and by just going three points into it you can have a massive damage power to use on spawns and choke points
.
Uhh, have you actually killed a platinum level husk with it without detonating, or are you going by numbers?

Nah, I'm almost sure it uses DS detonation as the CD as long as you already have DScasted and out. I thought I put that in but my wording may be a little confusing. That cancel is ok but the CDs on both DS and SS are long. Still good to use on host.Malanek999 wrote...

I know the cooldowns are long but I still for the life of me can't gauge when things will be ready to cast.

It plays differently than most kits. Play a little while with him and you will get it. One of the few kits that actually gets stronger off host because being able to cancel SS CD with DC.Beerfish wrote...
I suck so badly with this class. Funny thing is I don't score bad with it I just am totally unaware of how the cooldowns work and too lazy to learn. I have no clue at all when my seeker swarms will get back up after I press the button. i have no clue at all when my dark channel will be back up to cast. It's usually press button, wonder why it is not working, try again, hmmmm now it works.

I'm constantly changing builds on him, even though I end up just PPRing everything anyways.
What would you recommend and why? (Plat only)

I detonate it just not on everything. If I get a cluster of enemies or a single phantom that has pissed me off I detonate the hell out of it. The CD is rather punitive though if carrying a heavy weapon like the PPR. Don't detonate the DS on a single trooper, husk, etc that can be taken out easily with weapons fire.Midnight98 wrote...
Builds which do not involve detonating dark sphere are sissy builds.

The build I used last night to solo was 45665 for fitness and survivability. If playing for raw damage I would probably spec full AS with three in DS and 5 in SS, squishy but deadly. PPR with the lighter piercing and clip is what I use with warp rounds. Banshees, Praetorians, are actually much easier to kill than phantoms. I usually never use a SS to detonate unless I'm in a bind, weak BE and the PPR melts stuff so ridiculously fast.k1ngl1ves wrote...

NT: Thanks. I'll give that a go. I was pretty much just using 3 in DS and 5 in DC lately. I like my dr from SS, but I'll give this build you say a shot...

I keep the PPR for the destroyer. I take the csmg as primary and acolyte as secondary for dealing with shields(not barriers) and asplode everything with dark sphere.NuclearTech76 wrote...

I don't think that it actually is glitched. If I remember correctly, if you take 5a in Dark Sphere, you will get more damage and a longer duration, exactly as it says. The problem is that DS operates on a "total damage" that is divided by the duration, not a flat "damage per second" like Reave or DC. Thus, because the duration is extended, the damage per second is actually decreased - but you will get more total damage. I still take recharge speed though, it's necessary for such a long cooldown.NuclearTech76 wrote...
Dark Sphere evolution 5a is glitched and doesn't work properly, take recharge if going into 5 and 6.

From link:
TL;DR
Dark sphere 5A (+40% DoT, +40% Damage) is worse than useless and will actually reduce overall damage.
Duration bonuses serve only to reduce overall damage.
Dark sphere's DoT can last from 5 to 12.5 seconds depending on how long the target stays within dark sphere's AoE.

Just remember it only works off host. The DS cancel mega described works on and off host but not much difference in the CD times. The Krauser wrote...
I'll have to give the DC cancelling a shot with the seeker swarms even though I activate it only at the beginning of a game and never cast it back out ever again. When I get back on that is.
