Why not just make it a tavern? In fact, what seperates it from a tavern except that one sex sim feature?

Couldn't care less. If they make it to be some quest location [more than it was in DA2], or generally make it have some purpose besides sex [which is done sooo freakin' poorly] - then sure, go for it.

If the brothel's only purpose is to provide sex to the PC...yeah, I don't get it.

However, if they have reasons for wanting to include it, then I'm all for a brothel. Can you imagine the opulent brothels of Orlais? O_O

I question that myself. Surely there is some other public establishment that could serve effectively the same purpose as a brothel? Like a bar where you can actually drink yourself into a stupor?

Fallout:New Vegas - Brothel.

More importantly, he left out Fable!
The game where we could actually own our own brothel and go collect the earnings now and then.

Brothels in dragon age are sites of numerous side quests and companion interactions they are absultely mandatory.

It is in Denerim. It is also where your character can run into Isabela. (from DA2)

An Orlessian themed brothel would be the best of all brothels. Hirirng someone would be like a lucky dip on gender as I imagine Orlais brothels to be big on cross-dressing.
