Back in the 70's and 80's San Francisco had the infamous Mitchell Brothers club.
Not prostitution but nude dancing and the like. It became more infamous when one brother murdered the other.
A prostitution place like the Mitchell Brothers club could be entertaining .
Players that don't like it don't have to participate.

I really think that beyond being a quest "spot", the cutscenes could be more complete(not sure if that's the correct word) like in The Witcher instead of just paying and hearing awkward sex sounds and then it's over.

Someone mentioned in some other thread that they'd like to see a brothel that the player owns/controls from behind the scene and uses for information gathering, clandestine meetings, a front for other stuff, etc...and I really like the idea.

I've never seen the point of the Pearl or the Blooming Rose. You pay money, pick a random person to sleep with and then hear weird sex noises with a screen blackout and that's it......... what's the point?

I'm involved enough in anti-human trafficking charities to know that many brothel workers start working when they are under the age of 18. Brothels don't exactly advertise that though and will tell their girls to lie about their ages when asked (or the girls will choose to lie if they joined the trade willingly). And the poorer the country the worse it is, a recent study out of India showed only 6% of sex workers became sex workers by choice, (the rest were coerced, trafficked or otherwise forced to) and over 80% were under 18 when they started. And people are worried about it you just don't hear about it on the news for the same reason you don't hear about every individual drug arrest; because it is constantly happening so you only hear about it when something really shocking happens (like the Ranong human-trafficking incident).

I suppose in places like the Netherlands or Vegas it would be safer than streetwalking, but to say that they don't have pimps is entirely inaccurate. If you're working in a brothel, you have a boss (more or less fulfilling the role of pimp) who takes a large cut of your earnings (100% if your a slave), and depending on how girls come to work in the brothel, they will be punished, beaten, threatened etc. for any perceived wrong doings. 

Sorry I didn't mean to be such a windbag about this, and honestly, contrary to everything I just said, I'm actually not opposed to the presence of brothels in DAI, goes with the whole M-rated content thing, I'm just won't miss them if they're not included. I really just wanted to point out that RL brothels are nothing like what you'd see in game (because I feel strongly about it IRL, obviously). And I also find it kind of odd that people get so testy about issues like rape and homosexuality, but brothels? HILARIOUS FUN! I say hilarious in this case because their portrayal in the DA games certainly can't be described as sexy or titillating just... goofy.

on topic tho: sure, brothel was one of the funniest places in DA2, bumping on Gamlen was hilarious. it would be such a shame if they didn't include it in DA:I

In my mind, the city in Orlais we know we are visiting probably wouldn't have a brothel, but it may have an exclusive, members only sex club like in Eyes Wide Shut. We know Orlais likes masks and such. I could foresee an entire quest chain about gaining entrance and attempting to discretely acquire information about one of the members in order to blackmail him or her.

I like the weirdness factor that instantly grabs your attention. Not so much the brothel itself but the characters and the culture. Like for example Isabela talking about Anders as "that mage who did the lightning thing". Serendipity is probably one of my favorite characters. Pure genius lurking among the delicate elves. It's not everyday you hear about an elf xdresser.

 

I'd like them to keep the same attitude.

The Pearl was HILARIOUS. I mean, its just hilarious. The "Surprise me" options literally make me have a fit of laughter; I've never used those before, and I'm replaying DAO again and I was like "Hmmm, wut does this do" and I end up with a dwarf in drag.... The same dwarf Isabela mentions she tried in DA2 xD

 

Brothels are 100% necessary. They're like, one of the funniest parts of the game. I don't think anyone 'actually' uses them for the dirty payed sex part, just to see how funny it is and how awkwardly their companions react.

I don't care about how "female gamers" feel, but I have friends who are sex workers, and they've been stalked, assaulted, manipulated and exploited.

 

I don't think it's very cool of BioWare to poke fun at the very serious issues of the sex industry.

I'm a feminist, and I am A-OK with the in-game brothels, as long as they continue giving us options of both genders. I don't think Serendipity was handled perfectly in DA2, but that's a separate issue.

 

(Of course, I also support the legalisation of sex work in real life, and live in a country where it's legal already. Which doesn't mean there aren't huge problems with the sex industry here and around the world, I just don't think those issues are best dealt with by criminalising sex workers and their clients.)

Are you sure you guys are on the right forums? I'm sure there is a great deal of porn games out there. Some of them probably more recent than DA:O or DA2. I wager all of them have more porn.
