Why wouldn't the Collectors just go after some other, more numerous species, like Turians or something. Seems odd they'd *only* target Humans.

They are attracted to the superior species.

Sarcasm I hope.

Mass Effect Wiki

The Collectors usually operate through agents, such as the quarian Golo,
to make their deals. It has been speculated that the Collectors make
these strange requests because of strange fetishes or gruesome culinary
tastes. However, it is more likely that they perform genetic
experiments on these subjects. Regardless of the possible danger, their
requests are often granted by fringe groups because the technology the
Collectors offer in return is often extremely valuable, giving any race
who receives it an immediate advantage before it becomes adapted to the
galactic community.

"Human pride" folk sound like the damn Aryan Nation or somethin'. Come off it.

And here's LucidStrike coming along taking everything seriously and not being able to take a joke.

The simple answer is that humans have something that the other species don't have (good luck figuring that out with the tiny amount of main quest info already released!)

At the end of the day though this is the whole premise of the game, "find out who is abducting whole human colonies & figure out a way to stop them!" (Or die trying!)

To be honest, it wouldn't suprise me if the entire game's plot was actually a plan by Cerberus. The Collector's are only targeting humans to test Shepard.

Maybe they are making sure no other humans activate another reaper afterall it was a human who discover Soveriegn before Saren ever knew about the reapers.

I think everyone completely disregarded what I posted up above.  Anyway, yes.  While the Collectors have been collecting other races, i'm pretty sure this is the 1st time they've done it openly other than contacts.

Sorry I type slow. When I wrote that nobody else had responded.

Captured humans will be forced to watch the Twilight series over and over again.

I have a few theories, but the most likely one is because humans are new to the galaxy and we've made a huge impression so far. Defeating the galaxy's most powerful navy, then recieving an embassy on the Citadel, then defeating a Reaper-led Geth invasion and becoming a council race. Who are these pink, five fingered creatures? We have gots to get us some of those!

Who is this familiar face people speak of? It is a tad frustrating, especially when my xbox live doesn't work. I don't mind spoilers.

Humans expand faster and with less care than most of the other races, maybe the collectors know that a few human colonies will not be missed as colonies have a larger chance of failure than our races colonies. And therefore start of with those human who are the furthest out in the most dangerous regions, in the hope that it will be blamed on Geth, unknow virses or anything else that knocks out a colony.

They also know that by picking on only one race then there is less chance of the council looking into the problem. Humans being the last on the council and probably using all there political favors advancing in other ways, a few minor colonies going missing maybe even the Alliance is bothering to look into it.

the husks have a "necromorph" vibe to them, really creepy, wonder if the familiar face will be turned into a boss like "prey", sure hope not.

I have been thinking the same thing...ever since there has been some hint about the finale boss being outrageous and seeming to not fit in the ME universe( and since they said the collectors were changing humans).  Would be a big disappointment if it turned out that way. I wonder if that was familiar faces only big  "cameo". That would be disappointing too.

Maybe the collectors work for the Reapers and collect advanced life for harvesting purposes. This could be why the Reapers allow life to advance to a certain level.

I'm not certain how the Collectors will fit in with the Reapers. If they were working directly together, it would be odd for the Collectors to not back Saren and Sovereign in their attack against the Citadel. With the help of the Collectors, Sovereign would have succeeded.

Though not really a valid theory since it has no support, I wonder if the Collectors were a race at war with the Reapers and had escaped galactic annihilation in their day and age by jumping through the Omega-4 Relay and setting up a defensive network of sorts on the other side.

Interest in humans and in Shepard intensifies after he wipes out Sovereign. Maybe they see humans as a potential weapon they could use. However, it would not explain why they attack the Normandy at the outset of ME1 and don't recover his body (unless they didn't find out about his endeavors until after that event).

This might be considered by some to be a spoiler. Based on the mention of Collectors in both Mass Effect: Revelation and Mass Effect: Ascension, and the Fact that Reapers have nothing but Contempt for Organic life I would say they are not connected. It is probably to early to say that ONLY human colonies are being taken. Chances are very strong that other species also are having colonies taken but we hear about the human colonies 1.) because Cerberus cares only about humanity not aliens and/or humanity is one of the few if not only Species with colonies both in and outside Citadel Space.

Maybe being pokemon masters isn´t enough for them :o

No srsly, maybe they are a Borg alike species trying to assimilate humans and shep has to do a picard because of them. Or they need something like an inkeeper and humans match their standards.
I guess we will know soon enough.

Isn't it fairly obvious that the person being abducted in that scene will be whatever the love interest was that you had from the first game, or the default based on your gender from the start. It will also happen early in the game to inspire you in a personal way to find them and either take revenge or save them, also based on the choices you make. Seems like simple plotting to me.

I think that the Collector vs. Reaper escaping into the relay theory is likely, because one of the reviewers commented that the derelict reaper we see in the enemies trailer is towards the end of the game; maybe it's a reaper the Collectors killed? Maybe I'm just speculating too much. The humans as a weapon would make sense, but why would they destoy the Normandy? Or dissolve a human in one of their stasis pods? See Sci v. Fi part 2.

Which means those hoping to visit and interact with their ME LI's is probably out the door.

Well we might get to rescue them at the end, meaning we still get to see them, or we die in the suicide mission.

As has been said, humans advance quickly, farther than other species, which would denote some level of adaptability. With that in mind, it's not out of the question to presume they're either harvesting genetic stock such as specific DNA sequences (thus wanting particular types of individuals from different races) or for use akin to lab rats. Rate of indoctrination, Husk transition times, control efficiency, Hybrid results when exposed/introduced to Reaver technology, etc. etc. As far as I know, whether they're for or against the Reavers is still anyone's guess, but it'd be knowledge worth having regardless.

If we do rescue them and we didn't cheat I hope that opens up some interaction options with them since we can continue playing after the main quest. Be strange to rescue them and continue to play without be able to talk to them afterward.
