I hope we are done with returning characters as companions. (Spoilers I suppose)

P.S.  i take back everything I wrote above if the returning character is Sigrun.

YES!

I miss her.

But then again, she has little relevance in a plot that has little to do with Darkspawn.

So we know that Verric and Cassandra will be returning as companions.

I know no such thing; have you a link of a Bioware personnel confirming this?

I'm guessing none of the returning characters beyond Varric will be returning party members, just as Anders was the only returning party member in DA2, and Oghren in Awakening. (temporary origin parties notwithstanding)

I don't have a problem with familiar faces as party members really. It would be weird to have a whole group of characters being party members under different leaders across multiple games, though. Like the Tali and Garrus of some shapeshifting Shepard.

Nevermind, that would have been awesome.

As long as it makes sense, and the story is improved by their presence, I am all for returning characters.

Cassandra is not "returning" as a companion. That would mean she had been a companion in the past. I have mixed feelings about Varric's return.

A "returning" character is a character that is from another game. Party member or not. I want new characters.

I have no issue with taking some returning characters & fleshing them into great companions. Isabela is a fantastic example of this & DA2 to would be a much less enjoyable experience without her.

I'm more nervous about taking existing companions & making them a companion of a new protaganist. I'm intrigued how it will work with Varric, given how tied to Hawke he is/was.

Obviously there should also be some completely new companions on the roster.

I would actually like a couple more returning companions. I don't really consider Cassandra one, since we don't ever see her as Hawke.

It's a new game so I'd like most of the companions to be new. I pumped that Varric is making a return though. Cassandra was never a companion we don't know very much about her (Unless you watched the movie). I'm not going to be thrilled about Cullen becoming a companion, but he's the JB of the DA Universe (Bad at his job, annoying to listen to, hand his fans are border line pysco)

I do want to see past companions make some kind of appearance in some way at least. It's nice to see how past companions have changed and what they're currently up to.

Really? I don't understand this negativity toward the Cullen fans ... is it just the cool thing to do? Have you ever looked in the Cullen thread, have you had a discussion with them? If no, why do you make such statements? I'm hanging out in that thread and I think they're an awesome bunch. It's okay to not like a character, but to insult that characters fans is not okay!

I don't mind one or two returning minor characters being fleshed out as new companions. I'm still waiting for Charade Amell's return.

Loved Anders in Awakening, not so much in DA2. Hopefully Varric maintains his awesomeness.

Agree with OP, except for the part of Sigrun. Didn't really like her all that much. I would also be prepared to sacrifice my firstborn to never see Cullen again, but rumours on this forum seem to predict otherwise... :(

As long as they weren't companions before, I've no problem with it.
Exceptions being Awakening and DLC companions. I would like to see more of them.

I don't mind either way. If they were in previous games but still have relevance to the Inquisition storyline, then I'm happy with that. I also like that returning characters offer a sense of continuation between instalments, which would otherwise seem a little lacking, given that imported choices are often cosmetic and there is a different protagonist in each game. On the other hand, it's always nice to meet new characters. x

Returning characters? No, I kinda liked having Isabela as a companion and getting to know her character. Returning companions as companions? Not so much. I suppose I can deal though :)

Cassandra? The mistress 'interrogating' Varric throughout DA2? With the ugly hair? No thanks. Unless you can send your companions off to the Black Emporium for a hairdo...

There is going to be a Black Emporium equivalent in Inquisition, right? I sure hope there is, I'm one of those people who is never satisfied with the way his (female) character looks....

No more major character turning into companion. We have two already this is too much.

I don't mind some major character who have some non companion role, but as for my companions I prefer people I can get to knew at the same speed as my PC, and I want characters I have no significant opinion on to be my new companions.

This is exactly why I feel conflicted about Varric. While I loved him to bitsies in DA2 he's still Hawke's bro and I feel like I have a big chunk of experience with his character I can't just throw away and get to know him all over again.

Cassandra is.. Okay. She didn't have a character in DA2 and in her movie she was so underdeveloped that she could have been passed off as anyone else. Her "return" is okay.

Since Varric, Cassandra and Vivienne are locked in and DA seems to have a male and a female from each class, it looks like a sword and board male warrior (Cass is wielding 2-handed in the released stills), a dual wielding female rogue (oh, please, not Isabela again - I love her to bits but her story's told) and a male mage are going to be joining us.

To speculate a bit, Cullen would fit the bill for the warrior if they don't go for a Qunari. Has anyone seen Qunari fight weapon and shield? There was some discussion about a bratty female dwarf rogue whose name begins with an S. It wasn't Sigrun but she would also fill that role. Maybe her exploration into the deep roads took her really far west.... I also remember the same article mentioning a male mage from Tevinter. I think he's probably going to be an elf because they do tend to include a token elf and a token dwarf in the party. I don't know anything about Vivienne so I won't stick my neck out on either of the mages' specialties but I think one of them will be a healer.

Edit - Oops - forgot about Sera being an elf.  The male mage could be human.  I do know that the survey was debunked but my original argument for the male and female of each class and a dwarf and an elf is still there.  That kind of limits who can return.

It was announced in Game Informer. We know 3 companions for Inquisition: Cassandra, Varric and Vivienne.

Then Anders in DA:A and DA2.

Well, technically also Justice. I still think Anders in DA II was a shoddy character.

While I don't like Cassandra... I am actually more okay with her than Varric too. Simply because she is more blank.

Varric is... awesome, but I as a player already know him, pretty well too. And I don't quite know how to brigde the gap between da2 and da:I.

As much as I loved Anders in da2 this was already a problem with him and he was 'only' an expansion character.

Hey, sis, the bratty female rogue is Sera, an elf. But both she and the Tevinter magister, Dorian, are from a survey that has been debunked as being out of date, so their current status is unknown. It wouldn't surprise me if either both are in, but it isn't certain. I'm not crazy about the idea, since "bratty" is a major turn-off for me, but that's the way it goes.

A warrior, a rogue and a mage. Standard set. Three more of the same classes, but opposite genders? Or will there be new classes - hybrids, like in Mass Effect?

Anyway, regarding the topic - no, there isn't a character from previous DA games I'd like to have in my party again (except Varric, you can never have too much Varric). If Bioware handle it like they did in Mass Effect - the majority of your squadmates doing important stuff out there and helping in the war - I'll be fine with that. Actually, I'll be happy even if we don't hear of our old companions at all, the ones in DA2 were completely forgettable. From Origins: let Alistair appear - either as the King of Ferelden or a GW; maybe Sten as the Arishok and Leliana as the leader of the Seekers. MAYBE Oghren. And absolutely no more Zevran, no no no.
