I hope we are done with returning characters as companions. (Spoilers I suppose)

Last time I checked, DAO had 8 full-time companions.

From the information that's been released Cullen would be an excellent addition to the cast. We have Varic, a dwarf who associates more with himself and Hawke then with Orzammar. Then we have Cassandra, who was an important part of the Seekers. And Vivienne, a Pro-Circle Mage. Each companion seems to be breaking off from their respective groups to come towards the Inquisition.

Why wouldn't it make sense for a Templar to join? Cullen has been shown in TWO games to not agree with the Chantry and to have serious reservations about the Circles. With the power structures crumbling and his canon wariness of it all why wouldn't he make a good companion?

He makes a lot more sense then Varric, that's for sure.

Cassandra and Cullen seem a bit similar.  Seekers aren't very distinct from Templars as far as I can see.  Particularly since we've already had Alistair.

Honestly? I don't want to see any more returning characters (companions or NPCs from previous games - I'm strictly in the "No Cullen please for the love of God or I will lose my damn mind" camp) as companions. I'm cool with cameos or even major NPC status but not as companions.

I'm actually annoyed that Varric is back because I wasn't all too keen on him in 2. Cassandra, though, I'm really excited about (in part because she wasn't over-hyped by [female] fans like Cullen and Varric were).

No instead she is over hyped by [male] fans. So much better.

At least Cullen has a character. The only thing Cassandra has done so far is yell and be angry.

But this is not about character hate, I just generally find it more exciting to meet completely new characters.

Poor thing. Guess what you can do, though. Not play the game. You wouldn't want to 'lose your damn mind', afterall.

I don't frequent places with large quantities of male fans so I haven't seen that. And regardless, I'm a sort who who has a much higher tolerance for hype over female characters than male characters.

I see no problem with having old characters come back, as long as new characters are introduced as well. I don't get what the big deal is or why it makes the world seem small, especially when most of these characters would be drawn to the actions for either monetary reasons, principles, or personal reasons.

Oh, aren't you cute?

Jumping on the "if you have any problem with da3 speculation then don't play the game" train.

But really though, ignoring him, should he be a companion, is easy enough that my sanity (questionable as it is) should remain fairly intact. Hell, I never took Varric or Sebastian anywhere and sort of forgot they existed for a while. It was nice. I will, however, continue to say that since we're all just speculating at this point that I really hope he isn't a companion (and no other "fan favorites", regardless of gender or companion/npc status in previous games return as full companions in da3). :)

Hmm, yeah I wish it could be kept to a minimum. Seems like Thedas has a lot of stories to tell but not a lot of people to actually tell them, of course each game sees the new companions rising in status and stature so each time you're realistically more likely to see them just by virtue of them being more important and integral to the world in which they inhabit, but then there always is that awkward we've been essentially great friends with each other but that was a different character so now we have to be all distant and weird.

Need to bring back Oghren Varric and Sigrun for one game though.

I think you're cute, too, ilikesocks <3

I never knew Cullen was a "fan favorite" and had "rabid fangirls" until I actually entered the Cullen thread and started noticing all the hatred that was spewed towards his fans.

I am probably not active enough online to notice all this supposedly rampant Cullen raging fangirlism. I am on tumblr, a little bit, but perhaps I don't follow any of the insane rabid fangirl blogs.

But since so many people complain about these hoards of raving insane fangirls, I'm such they absolutely must exist.

I think "rabid fangirl" is some kind of code word for "somebody whose preferences differ from mine."

I don't think you exist in the same corners of the Dragon Age fandom as I do then.

Also it's just one of my little pet-hates when an underdeveloped NPC is plucked from the depths of obscurity and hailed as the best thing since sliced bread. Especially since that NPC is usually, in my experiences, male.

Not to mention how skeevy I've always found Cullen ships (which is predominantly what I see) because of the power imbalance between Templar and Mage. And a lot of his fans gloss over this (at least as I see it) glaring issue in favor of "twu wuv".

No to Oghren. There is a limit. Oghren was already a full companion in both DAO and DAA. That's enough.

Anders was full companion in both DAA and DA2. Enough. Sigrun I could see since she was only in DAA.

I don't consider Cass and Cullen in the same category. We have been introduced to both characters, but never had either has a full companion. Neither has had an expansion where they played a full companion role, or a dlc. Cass had that movie, but that's not game.

Varric--I was surprised to see him returning in a role as a full companion. I must say. Love Varric, but was still surprised, and kinda on the fence abt it. DA2 was a full game, not an expansion or dlc. So him being a full game companion again is interesting. But since I enjoy Varric, I'm cool with it.

The rabids fangirls about Cullen is a myth invented by the bsn.

Yes, he has fangirls, very active, but they are positive and passionate most of the time.  No drama, no rage. They are in their thread and they don't bother anyone. What is funny is that those who create threads about Cullen are more folks who don't like him than his fans.

I just think many people here, just don't like the fact that this character they despise can be popular. So they try to dismiss his fanbase.

* shrugs *

I looked close, don't worry. The scale of criticism toward his fans is absolutely ridiculous.
