The endings weren't bad, per se.

Oh, goddess, I hate Marauder Shields and everything to do with it. For several reasons, but a big one is that Saren's body completely disintegrated in ME1 and could not possibly return as a marauder.

So you can't take a joke then?

...also, Saren isn't the one who comes back as Marauder Shields.

I may have misremembered that, but who does?

Don't worry, it's riddled with many, many other inane problems.

Oh, the irony

Ah, yes, I saw that coming.

Because... a guy who's been decaying for at least three years on Eden Prime is a more likely candidate? Even if he was returned to Palaven for a funeral or whatever, not only would he have insufficient physical integrity to be a great marauder candidate, there's no way a quick injection of Reaper nanites into a long-dead corpse could somehow call up old memories. Shepard required two straight years and a lot of specialized work for it to happen with her.

...and fading fast. I'm on the website www.koobismo.com right now checking out the comics with the musical accompanyment. Checking out all the other good stuff there as well. (Chocolate Chips by Zaeed:D)

I shall say no more, because I'm not spoiling this for anyone else.

You're taking it a good bit too seriously, Xil.

So the whole thing is intended to be a shallow parody after all?

Can only speak for myself, but it's pretty obvious that the early installments were.

The later ones are where it gets "serious". Still fanfic-y, without question, but serious.

Right. It's the serious parts that bug me, primarily.

Synthesis doesn't belong in Mass Effect, imo. Trans-humanism was not even a secondary theme, let alone something to be pushed to the forefront. Everyone expected some type of Destroy and Control endings, but more importantly most wanted a meaningful final mission.

Maybe the ending framework was solid, but its execution fails on almost every level. The framework is just Deus Ex though, which could have been fine I guess. The Catalyst doesn't help any of it either.

Why? A portion of the ME fandom finds them entertaining and referential, instead of the over-serious, flawed philosophy that emerged there at the end. I don't adopt 'em as a "preferred" ending, but they've been fun to experience.

Tip: Most people who dish out the "Marauder Shields is my ending" statements really just mean: "Anything is better than the ending we got".

Primarily because I believe that many people who hate the ending are deliberately giving the Catalyst's philosophy far more attention than it deserves. So you think the Catalyst is crazy? Well, so was TIM, but complaints about his philosophy are far fewer and almost never involve saying that he broke the game. The Catalyst is an antagonist, just one you can negotiate with; if you think it's wrong, well, it's wrong! That's not the point. The end isn't really about the Catalyst at all, it just frames the ending; the actual ending is about Shepard, what she values and what she's willing to sacrifice.

Yeah... you should probably read it a lil bit before passing judgment on why some people like it more than ME3's ending.

Right. People somehow think that the Catalyst is supposed to be right all along for some reason I never got. And then there are the folks who go all the way to the other side and conclude that he just has to be lying about everything because he's the bad guy.

Which makes me wonder why the Dark Energy plot is so popular here -- in that plot the Reapers would really have been the good guys all along.

I don't think anyone disputes this, my opinion is that the Catalyst was a really poor way to frame the ending choices. Everything reeks of being done at the 11th hour which we know it was.

This is why I wanted the Reapers origins/goals to remain a mystery, it really was not possible to come up with something that didn't seem lame. I agree with Stephen King in that respect. But then I say that as someone who did enjoy the mystery behind the Reapers.

Yea, I never really cared for what their goals and origin were

I had my own idea on what the ending could have been based off of these themes.

This is the basic idea

This one is a bit more descriptive of the Reaper's motive that thought worked best and actually fits the game we have.

If the reapers had to have a motive, I honestly would prefer that it were something simple and brutal, like The Killing Star, or that Harbinger were essentially Multivac.

If you say so. From your posts, it looks like you didn't 'cause you haven't posted anything factually accurate about it as yet.

We know that. It's why you keep posting non-factual stuff.
