Whatever the Council did 300 years ago is zero reflection on the asari.

Except for the whole "for them its within living memory and a lot of the blueberries from that period are probably still in positions of power" bit.

But I know that isn't heroic enough for his high smugness.

You know, I'm suspecting that the negativity towards the asari and the geth on the BSN have very little to do with the actual merits of either, and much more to do with people on the BSN wanting to reflexively disagree with the developers.

Wanting to get a nice little illusion of power by proclaiming whatever the developers supposedly 'support' must be stupid.

So what you're saying is that it's all a conspiracy?

Feeling powerful David?

David always feels powerful.

That's why he acts like he's got little dog syndrome.

It's true, the Council should have intervened when the quarians started attacking the geth. However, I think the situation blew up too quickly for the Council to intervene properly... and, ultimately, it was a pretty fantastic ****up on the part of the quarians to both create an AI race and make them hostile.

@Xilizhra People can say what they want on this thread about it all but what was said here is undeniable:

Three hundred years ago, the geth drove my people to exile. We asked the Council to wipe the synthetics out, but they ignored our pleas." If Kaidan, Ashley, or Wrex is there they'll say "Maybe if they listened we wouldn't be here now."

I don't even agree with what Tali wanted the Council to do. "wipe the synthetics out"  The Council was in the perfect position to play the part of Peacemaker between the geth and quarian. And they choose not to.

Liara has so much plot her armor can't even hold it all in. That's why it's not plot armor.

The councillors are little more than ambassadors appointed by their respective governments (the Asari councilor is elected), and so they would only do what their governments want. After all, the UN Security Council is not a world government and three people cannot realistically compose one. Maybe the councillors wanted to help but the matriarchs/dalatrass/primarchs refused to do something? Maybe the Quarians have refused foreign assistance in the first place (as stated in the codex)? Maybe the Asari wanted to help but were outvoted. Maybe the Turians or the Salarians wanted to help but were outvoted. We don't know it. It's absurd to blame the (current) council or one council race.

Of course not.

But I do pick up on trends. For example, isn't it incredibly convenient that the three squadmates who face the most criticism, Liara, James, and EDI, are also the three mandatory squadmates?

Isn't it convenient that Miranda faced considerable criticism in ME 2 but far, far less now?

With those things in mind, I conclude that whether or not a squadmate is mandatory plays a very considerable role in how much criticism they receive. Likely more of a role then the quality of the actual character itself.

This is the same kind of thing.

They feared a repeat of the Rachni Wars/Krogan Rebellions; "peacemaker" failed fantastically in the latter case, and after the devastation those caused, it's not really hard to see why they feared it.

But since it wasn't the asari it wasn't really that big of a deal yes?

Hah, we all know that the Asari are the true master race. Stupid Quarian race isn't worth a single Asari life:happy:

(the asari councilor could have easily been Tevos)

Then I'd be dead too, so it's moot.

Of course I could, on Rannoch.

But she doesn't, it's silly. She's not one of the necessarily-Alliance members at risk in ME1, she doesn't join the suicide mission in ME2, and she doesn't ever have the possibility of turning on Shepard or just committing suicide... none of which is unique to her.

There should have been the option to betray liara and give her over to the shadow broker in ME2.
