Liara was trained to shoot a gun long before she met Shepard

She mostly uses her biotics anyway so why start a random argument

Is there any evidence of that outside of gameplay, which shouldn't count due to gameplay and story segregation?

"Yeah she was using a gun, but she doesn't"

logic

It's not the fact that she knows how to fight I have a problem with. It's that she seems to know how to fight in such a way that it exceeds the skill of a normal solider and goes into "one of the best" territories in terms of her skill.

Other soldiers don't have Shepard as their mentor.

In any case, would this not apply equally well to almost any character in any action fiction in existence?

Liara is trained in using a firearm and has powerful biotics. There's no point in arguing whether or not she had training. Her abilities speak for themselves.

I spent more medi-gel on her than anyone else.  Never used her.

Worst squadmate ever

Agreed.

On the Palaven mission after T'soni fixed the comms tower, I went to the right to help Vega fight some husks, I look to the left and see a husk jump on T'soni, hit her 3 times and she falls  "dead". I checked the difficulty and surprised I had it on narrative mode. I laughed and thought , why is she a squadmate?

Huh.  In Normal mode during my first playthrough, I let Vega take on the tower while me and Ms. Biotic took on the husks, and she performed much better than that.

It happens before she meets him.

And again, pure conjecture based on yourown head canon

Singularity, hoes. Use it. Then again, I played a Vanguard Shepard so it went:
Singularity->Charge->Nova->*everything dies*

Narrative is ridiculously easy. I found that the only way for a squad member to die in battle is to just sit back and do nothing. Liara spams singularity and warp on everything and husks are the weakest enemies.

Says the person who claims that Shepard has been training Liara

Why on Earth would I need singularity? I can detonate my own biotic combos.

huh.. thats probably because you suck.  I used her and wrex on insanity, without much difficulty (ME1).  They just ripped things apart.

Liara doesn't fight anything and never mentions using a gun before.

It's 'conjecture' only in the sense that it isn't proven. But it's also logic.

A is the most likely explanation for B.
B, therefore A. (Probably.)

Perfectly sound logic.

Why would I bring her when I have powerhouses in the form of Wrex and Ashley?

Javik's Dark Channel/Pull + Throw/Warp + Lift Grenades = no need whatsoever for the blueberry

I find Liara's Singularity much more useful than Ashley's pew pew, especially after Virmire when Ashley is blown up. Blown up people aren't the best squaddies.

Because the AI is simply not good enough to utilize the soldier class making Ashley the least useful of the squad. Not to say she is bad (all squadmembers are more or less OP by the end of ME1), but compared to Liara/Kaidan/Wrex she is not very good.

It's absolutely sound logic. If you can point out a flaw, do so.

Javik's Dark Channel/Pull + Throw/Warp + Lift Grenades = no need whatsoever for the blueberry

Singularity>Pull (Crowd control and can have extremely short cooldown)
Warp>Dark Channel (It can prime 50% better and detonates)
Stasis>>>>>>>Slam
Lift Grenades>Warp Ammo

My Shep was 100% not her Mentor.

Your Shepard kept her on the ship for two games. Helped her defeat the Broker. Dove for her instead of the other squadmate when the Broker threw that desk at them. Had Liara save his body. All of that's canonical.

I don't see how Shepard mentoring her in combat is a stretch at all.

How else do you suggest she learned how to fight?
