Should the Inquisitor be our avatar in the world or a character on their own right?

I guess the thing is, I value being able to express things in the game, with the character I control more than I value someone internal idea about the character being contradicted by the voice actors tone/ the script, whatever.

Moreover, as I don't self insert,I want a character I can care about, even if I do control them. Morever, I can't care about a character that's basically just me. I need some distance. I follow the character, guide them... it's hard to explain.

It's like, the character takes on aspects of my personality, and thought process, but I also take on parts of their personality as the game progresses. It's a collabaration between me, the writers, and the voice actor.

Of course, that's just me. I'm baffled by people trying to expalin to people that they're perceiving things incorrectly. It's like arguing the objective merits of red over blue. (Insert Mass Effect joke.)

I think the story is a collaboration between me and the writers, but the character is mine.

IMO RPG is as much about the player telling their story as it is the developer telling their story. Of course it's an illusion of control/story telling, but the illusion is enough.

Achieving this balance is something bio has lost with their more recent titles. Whether it's due to time constraints or just a general change in development attitude/goals I'll judge with DA:I.

Hmmm... I think our own avatar possibly? I'm not sure.

In my magewarden run for example, I found it extremely weird that my Circle trained mage had to ask Alistair anything chantry/lyirum/templar related

Or.... being an ex-templar.... why can't a magewarden y'know...actually...argue with him over it?
