It did seem a little strange but it is pre alpha. Even if they do keep the roll it's still a lot less rediculous than the teleporting Warriors/Rogues from DA2.Siven80 wrote...
Looks like they are heading on the right direction.
The speed looked ok too, not too slow, not too fast.
Though i didnt like everything.
The warrior in heavy armor rolling.......um, no thanks. For a rogue/light armoured agility character sure, but not a heavy armoured guy.
Also i didnt like the harpoon ability. I dony know why.
I like the idea of the heavily shielded enemy. Its more of of an individual challenge to take him down effectively, and when added with other enemy types in group combat the effect can be good with you requiring more tactics to overcome them.
As for the harpoon, didn't really like it either. But I have a feeling that might change once I try it out. lol
Teleporting Warriors and high-flying acrobat Rogues. I actually really liked DA2, despite being a huge fan of DA:O too, but the way combat movement worked in DA2 was one of the two or three things I absolutely hated about the game.

Agreed, I really liked DA2 as well but that was a bit much, haha.Foshizzlin wrote...

I'm curious about what happened to "I believed that active dodges would fail in a party-based game, because the player would feel as if he could only play the 'tank' of the party in order to have maximum effectiveness." (link) Or was that not an active dodge?

I hope they speed it up a little. That movement was simply too slow for my liking

Nothing here resembles how I would play the game. And if this is the only option*, I'm not playing the game.

Its just baffling that they went on about party focused tactics and strategy, then didn't show any.
You don't know whether its a hopeful sign or a very bad one.
The only thing we have to go off of is a God of War style chain throwing and a W2/Kingdoms of Amular style 1 v 1.
I'm curious who cut the video, since I found that surprising as well.
Well, if GI did the cutting, that could make sense.
"Show first twenty seconds of combat Friday, then next week (Mon, Wed, Fri) showcase progressively more detailed combat."
It would be my marketing strategy, honestly.

"Hope" may be the more operative word.

I don't know about tactical camera, but being able to use a keyboard seem obvious to the point they shouldn't need to go out of their way to show it. And the fact that they felt the need to patch in auto attack in DA2 makes me feel confident they wouldn't get rid of it again.Fast Jimmy wrote...

It's pre-alpha so the finished product will likely be more fluid than that, but if they speed it up we'll start creeping into DA2 territory.Mr.House wrote...

No, I am a digital GI subscriber and have already seen all of the videos that have not been released yet. They do not show any team tactics. Which is fine. They have over a year before the game releases. Plenty of time for polish. They do mention how party tactics will work against an armored dragon. A warrior takes out the armor on a leg, a rogue poisons the leg, and then a mage wrecks havoc on the now poisoned dragon.
The next couple of videos are fantastic though. Including talk about the future of RPG's and Dragon Age Lore. Won't spoil it, but I highly enjoyed it.

I hope the harpoon thing is an ability or a secondary weapon and not just every warrior has a lasso.
God I hate action rolls.

It's been that way since DAo, hell even in nightmare you can sometimes faceroll certain trash mobs. DAO was not as tactical as people think it was.
Two mages are a faceroll on nightmare. It's a joke at that point.

What is this "faceroll" of which people are speaking? From context, I'm feeling that it is beating something with ease. But I've not seen the term used before.

It's not so much ease but automated combat. Basically, there's just a go to set of ways to fire off abilities that just steamrolls combat, such that if you just keybound that ability, you might as well just roll your face over the keyboard until you won.

Perhaps a recut is in order? I don't doubt you guys have been working quite hard to make a difference in our opinions this time, so it's unfortunate if that's actually the case.

Also its very nice to see things like weather effects in game, but I hope they don't use it for specific areas/scenes and make it a natural system. Day night cycle would be nice aswell.
It seems this game is shaping up to be a blend of Witcher, Dark Souls and Skyrim, while still having a focus on story, and the one thing BioWare is doing that no other AAA wrpg dev is, which is party based gameplay. I think they're on the right track with this game, unlike DA2 which was doomed from the start.

Not to let DAO off the hook - pretty much every battle in that game was a repetition of skills as they came off cooldown.
