Is everybody okay with the DA:I animations we've seen so far?

Because I'd swear it was like watching a modded out DA:O

The horse animation was ok, the walking with the sword sheathed was fine, but the stifness of the mage walking with the staff, the warrior running with the two hander, the way the enemies move... it's not only the smoothness of the animations, but the move set as well, is it mostly the same move set of DA:O and DA2? It's an honest question.

I know it's pre-alpha and all but if these animations are going to stay, even perfected... yikes.

There's still a long, long way to go. You can start freaking out if you see the same animations closer to the release date.

You kidding? Of course there are gonna be different opinions. Nothing bothered me so far apart from the speed. Or lack thereof.

That's why I'd like to hear about the status of the animations in the game, if they are using placeholders or it's locked down content

Pre-Alpha's don't ever look as good as the beta versions. Usually.

Well, it looked a bit slow, and based on Vivienne's animations, they eliminated the awesome DA2 mage animations, which makes me a sad panda.

OTOH, it's a pre-alpha, and there's a little less than a year (?) before the game goes into certification, so a lot of stuff can still happen. I hope it includes upping the combat speed, or I'm going to spend the game perma-Hasted.

It looks a damn sight faster than DA:O, which is what I really care about.

So far we've only seen mages and warriors. I'd like a better indication of how rogues are going to handle and what special abilities they get.

Pre-Alpha can mean different things in different studios, but in general "Alpha" in development is content locked. Meaning nothing new is being generated for the game. The fact that the game is pre-Alpha means that they're still adding things. Visuals, abilities, quests, and yes, most likely animations.

The only thing that even remotely bothered me about the combat video was the lack of awesome mage animations, though. Playing a mage in DA2 was actually fun because of how much oomph the animations had to them. Especially when activating Blood Magic. That **** was Metal.

Amen, Baron! DA2 mages almost ruined all other classes for me.

Personally, I loved the animations, particularly Vivienne's. Bearing in mind that was pre-Alpha footage and clearly and distinctly a work in progress.

It's pre-alpha but it already seems good. Even the roll animation didn't seem ridiculous. Can't wait for more.

I swear, I've never really understood the "poor animations" thing people keep putting up. I mean, as long as they aren't The Longest Journey or even Morrowind then the game is fine.

For me anyway. Everyone has their "things" I suppose xD

It was good to see that Vivienne isn't a poledancer. The warrior's walking animation looked odd though... like he was dragging his soles forward over the ground.

The walking animation with the unsheathed twohander looked a bit like stomping, not a fan of. Maybe the sandy underground prevents proper movement?

The roll was a little bit too perfect for the amount of armor the character was wearing. I would like to suggest a Dark Souls "fat roll" for heavy armor.

I loved the look of Vivienne's animations. I dont see how the awesome animations from da2 are gone unless talking about the basic attack. Everything seems toned down a little, which I like.

I am it seems to be a nice balance between DA:O and DA2's animation

Why did you think she would be?

Speed was good. Animations on the whole looked fine, stupid roll excluded.

I like the way it looked and seem to have played for the most part, especially the mage. It just seems a more considered approach compared to the ridiculous animations of the last game.

In DA2 it seemed to be every mage's secondary career choice given their combat animations.

I don't really have a problem with flashy animations once in a while, but I thought those really over the top ones could have been reserved for critical hits. It's cool if you see it once in a while, but on constant repeat it just wasn't my thing. I prefer less acrobatic mages. More hand gestures would add some nice variety to the staff swinging, IMO.

I don't know what pole-dancing clubs you've been to, but they're doing it wrong.

In pole-dancing, the pole doesn't move at all.
