Is everybody okay with the DA:I animations we've seen so far?

There was nothing good about Mages and their animations in DA2.

Nothing.

Subjective, obviously, but everything mage in DA2 was not to my taste. Their animations, their specializations, their staff-only weapons. I dread the chance we are going to see something like that in DA:I.

As for the animations in general, they looked without any significant weight, and they were too fast like DA2 from what i saw. However, i can't be sure because even Dark Souls looks weightless when you look at it, but it's a different thing when you actually play it.

Pre-alpha or not, i can't say i was impressed, but i was not disappointed either so far. (as far as animations go, again)

I didn't really care for their basic attack animations, but I like the slight alteration to their stance seen in the latest video.

I did, however, like most of the casting animations.

This being Bioware I was expecting someone with skimpy clothing, over sized breasts, or an utterly stupid walk. Or all three of those.

Really? I'm not saying Bioware has had their share of those types, but they don't seem anywhere as bad as most other game companies.

The horse animation was weightless & awkward.

Only thing I noticed that kinda gave me an eye twitch was the character at one point in the videos walks over a broken wall or something, and his feet were gliding right through the bricks. I REALLY hope that's something they take the time to fix.

It looks good but not great. I think it is because it uses frostbite 3, afterall battlefield 4 is in alpha right now and looks like crap but im sure at release it will look much better.

It looks ambitious. Lets see how it unfolds.

Too early to tell for me to decide. In all honesty I have to actually play the game first before I can form any kind of opinion on the combat animations.

*sigh* Another thread about some aspect of the upcoming game without providing a link so that people who haven't seen it yet can easily comment. (God, this is becoming a pet peeve of mine. So inconsiderate!) I don't know what to think of the animation because I haven't seen it yet, and I don't know what you're talking about so I don't know where to look. Hopefully it's better than DA2.

Well I'm Rohirrim and I find that horse offensive! Despite the fact it's pre-alpha and the fact that it'll most likely change, I'm refusing to buy Dragon Age Inquisition because of the horse!<_<

They could use some refining, but they aren't bad. Way better than DA2 at any rate.

Too early to judge but yes. They don't look so ridiculous anymore which is good.

Ah, thank you.

Well, it's faster than DA:O but not as snappy or flashy as DA2. I'm content. ^_^

I also love how the warrior wielding the greatsword doesn't take ten years to swing like in DA:O. (I REALLY wanted to make a casteless that wielded heavy two-handed weapons to symbolize the heavy burden of her upbringing, which she used to swing at people, but it was so tear-inducingly slow that even I had to stop using it, and I tend not to care as much about speed or combat.)

Mostly I dislike how the back bends when they are walking with a sword on hand, they look like quasimodo from frankenstein

There's still a long, long way to go. You can start freaking out if you see the same animations closer to the release date.

That's why I'd like to hear about the status of the animations in the game, if they are using placeholders or it's locked down content

Very little is locked down at this point.

The most "locked down" stuff is probably some of the art assets (and only "locked down" in the sense that someone has made some nice looking ones that we could probably ship with) as well as maybe the general plot ideas (which gets tweaked and modified too)

Pardon me?

Us "freaking out" is what got races back in. The fans "freaking out" is what got Ashley armor in ME3 as opposed to simply her "tinfoil skirt and thigh-high boots."

Freaking out is a hyperbolic description--but it's practically our JOB to give them feedback. They don't have to agree with it or even USE it, but saying we can't complain? Really?

What?!

Don't listen to Allan, he doesn't know what he's on about.
