I'll be honest i think Liara and Miranda are just awful. Miranda is so damn frigid. And Liara Whines too much.

Define "pretty damn frigid". Once off the Lazarus station, Miranda defrosts pretty quick (personally, I think they would have been better off playing it out slower).

Liara, as much as I tend to dislike her, actually doesn't whine very often. When she does whine (Benezia and Thessia), it's understandable, though the timing for her Thessia-venting could have been better.

Yeah, I never understood the change off the station. It's like it's from another recording session and script.

On one hand, I can sort of understand it. ME2 (to the characters involved) is about this all-important suicide mission. I would be counter-intuitive to the team if Miranda spent an extended amount of time being hostile to the CO of the ship.

Miranda. Her gradually display of vulnerability as she begins to trust Shepard was nicely done. The two play off one another quite well, especially if you opt for the renegade dialogue and I found Miranda's background most interesting once she began to open up. Unfortunately, ME3 wasted much of the potential, even if the little shown was decent.

For Femshep, Garrus, Traynor and Kaidan all have some excellent content. Never thought Garrus would escape bro status, but once I jumped into his romance arc, yeah...

Ashley-Miranda-Ashley

I think it makes for the most believable story progression...in terms of the romance side.

Errm, how?

I think it's possible to just see Miranda as a fling.

I don't myself. I think she comprises the interesting parts of Ashley and Kaidan both (Kaidan's abilities with Ashley's human centric leanings. Except Miranda's ideals are educated, not based in inexperience). So in that case, it's good riddance to either one of them.

I definitely do not view the romance with Miranda as a fling.

However, I think the Ashley-Miranda-Ashley makes for the most believable stroy progression, in terms of the romance side because of this...

In ME1...Shepard meets Ashley...and they eventually become romantically involved in the first part of the trilogy. Her being the first love interest almost makes it destined for them to be together.

In ME2...Shepard "dies". Miranda rebuilds him. They really start to form a bond throughout the missions together. After Shepard encounters Ashley again on Horizon...it is easy to see him go to someone else, even though he has  true feelings for Ashley. (remember it's been only a  ?months? or so for him...and two years for Ashley, since they last saw each other) At this point, him and Miranda becoming closer is almost inevitable. I like to think that despite some of the dialog bioware makes Shepard say...that he truly does care for Miranda on an emotional level.

In ME3...Shepard is in "lockdown" for six months. It really puts a "damper" on his relationship with Miranda. He gets out and sees Ashley again. Right away, the team up (just like old times) and then he quickly almost sees her die on Mars. Seeing that brought all his feelings for her back...and then the Ashley romance plays out in ME3.

In that sense...I think that if you view each game as a movie in a trilogy...the romance storyline progression makes sense and is very believable.

I think it depends on how you play it or what you evolved towards in ME2. It also depends on how you romanced Ashley exactly in ME1. There are different ways to go about it. It can be somewhat serious or it can be more like two people playing cat and mouse with each other. Not exactly serious. You don't even have to sleep with her. You can tell her to leave the cabin and she's still hooked up with you. You can even tell her that her choice of poetry sucks, and she still wants to hook up. You can even be mean to her (like once the Normandy is grounded), and she still gets attached. It's start becoming a little one sided that way. There are many ways to make the story "work".. the fun is just finding one that works for you.

Ashley, despite the poor writing in 2 and somewhat in 3. A strong woman with a big heart that is misunderstood by many. My type of woman, and she looks great as well.

So your miranda dies in 3?  (If you turn her down...her romance death speech on Horizon is really strong)

for me its basically that but replace ashley with Liara.  Shepard and Liara get into a pretty cold situation on Illium where he feels like she doesnt care about him anymore, and ends up giving in to miranda and having another complicated scenario.  (Liara and Ashley conflict in ME1 before ashley dies on virmire.  also i guess renegade jack romance in me2 and the sha'ira romance in me1....i accidentally made my shepard into a modern movie action hero with all that sex goin on.)

They just did such a better job with kaiden in terms of "making them better than they were" which might in part be due to kaiden being SO MUCH LOWER than ashley before that they probably didnt feel like they had to go all in there.

You can do Ashley-Miranda-Ashley (importing savegames) and not have Miranda die in ME3. It has been explained numerous times, so I'll be brief. If Shepard isn't a jerk to her and says "I want you in my life" the first time you meet in the Citadel, if Shepard gives her the heads-up on Kai Leng with the info sent by Anderson and finally grant her access to Alliance 'resources' (while not locking her as a paramour when she talks to you about the control chip) she will survive and become a war asset.

I'll never ever understand how people can say "Ash's romance is the most realistic" or "it only makes sense if Shep goes with Miranda". No romance is "the most realistic", every Shep has a different personality. My Shep always romances Tali, because the two match perfectly. Still I don't go around proclaiming that Tali is the only realistic romance option and all others are badly done or don't make sense.

Everyone has a different taste, I find both Miranda and Ash to be ugly and I don't like their personalities. Some people hate Tali because she's too emotional and has "dog legs".

To each their own:?

ME1 : No one
ME2 : Miranda
ME3 : Miranda

Because I think she's the most interesting character and the perfect match for my Shepard.
I also find her romance the most emotional, meaningful and mature.

Why? Not 'perfect' and she isn't throwing herself at Shepard like others do...probably because you can romance her only in ME2 and not ME1 when she just silently admires you.

Already posted my choice of Tali before, but also wanted to add that she seems to show more concern for Shepard at certain moments, including the first meet up in Citadel as well as after completing Leviathan, than the other LIs do which I like.

Those scenes are identical for other squadmate LIs, and not Tali-specific.

I mean right after the LI kills the two soldiers in the car dealer. Tali asks if Shepards alright, while every other LI just says "Having a bad day, Shepard?"

As for Leviathan, if you speak to the LIs after the last mission for the DLC, they'll mention different thngs about Leviathan, while Tali just seems concerned that she almost lost Shepard.

The best in each game I would say:

Liara in ME1
Tali in ME2
Traynor in ME3

Although a romanced Tali's visit to the apartment in the Citadel DLC for ME3 is the most laugh out loud weird moment in the entire trilogy.

To be honest I thought the continured romances with characters in your party for ME3 didn't really work, as the it made very little sense that they blew so hot and cold and had so little to say.

Seems to be a very love/hate moment, I actually liked that scene.

I'm not sure that I liked it, but it was very weird. I prefer weirdness to pathos in games any day.

Obvious : Liara... She's Bioware's favourite.
