Given the total lack of men within the asari race and hence never possessing any native contact with penises as a necessary part of reproduction, there's literally no reason for them to think of penetration as being attractive, any more than the cloaca-possessing salarians would.

They are a species of sex objects.  BioWare no doubt intended them to function to work the same way as human females except "better"

I didn't like the trope the first million times I read it.

Liara's very odd. The level of devotion she shows in 2 is almost frightening. She braved a lot just to recover my body. How do I live up to that. And then in 3 she doesn't even feel that into Shep until Cronos and I start eyeing Traynor and the sheer lightness of her romance.

She feels kinda into Shep if you friended her. Though that could be because as a friend your expectations for it are lower. Easier for her to exceed them.
