I didn't like the trope the first million times I read it.

Liara's very odd. The level of devotion she shows in 2 is almost frightening. She braved a lot just to recover my body. How do I live up to that. And then in 3 she doesn't even feel that into Shep until Cronos and I start eyeing Traynor and the sheer lightness of her romance.

I do think that the romance feels somewhat cold in the middle. Though the Citadel DLC could perhaps fufill that hole if you do it somewhere around the coup or Rannoch.
