Shepard doesn't do everything. The fleets are still doing the actual fighting. But it's Shepard that tips the scales.

As I remember, it's the Crucible that wins the war, not Shepard. He just activates it.

The Reapers are defeated directly because of Shepard.

Not because of some pencilnecks in a lab. Not because of Cerberus. Because of Shepard. Shepard is the deciding factor that tips the scales in favor of victory.

That's meaningful action.

wow. missed the point about shepard being nothing without shepard's friends and comrades to support him or her in the fight I see.

Yes, and that's a very significant problem with the current plotline that needs to be addressed for an ideal alternative.

Well, to be fair, if not for Shepard, Liara would not have been able to reach the Prothean relic and escape with the plans, Cerberus would've taken the blueprints, and the galaxy would be screwed.

It can be made ideal on its own with changes to the writing and execution. In fact, I did this in a manner that makes it work better.

You basically want Shepard to turn into Palpatine Reborn and use his Force Vortex of heroic meaningfulness to kill the Reapers.

Don;t take it personally, david brings out the worst in everyone.

Stick around or try and debate him, and it'll happen to you to.

He';s like excalibur from soul eater, for anyone who gets the reference, only without the kickass song.

I would be perfectly fine with self-contained stories with grand escapades through the galaxy, but the first Mass Effect seemed to want to offer pieces of both that and a big overarching plot that would extend throughout the trilogy, with obviously mixed results.

I hope that some lessons are taken from this for the new game, and the new threat isn't some overpowered big bad that has to bulldoze over everything.

Bioware can't resist the formula of "big epic plot". They should resist the temptation more often.

Many fantasy writers should.

One of the best fantasy novels I've read recently was basically Ocean's Eleven.. a heist story in a fantasy setting. No epic plot. I would kill for more things like this in games.

Friends and allies are incredibly important. I assure you I don't underestimate their importance.

But they aren't everything. If you strip away a man's friends, allies, comrades, and contacts and there's nothing left underneath...that's not good.

In the end, you're on your own.

So basically you are disappointed you (Shepard) didn't get to Rambo it up and the end.

I was wrong.

Davey isn't a delusional Messiah sent from on high to save us from our lack of heroism.

He's the best damn troll the BSN has seen in years!

I bow down before your trollish greatness Davey, truly you are a paragon amongst your kind.

You know, there's a chance I might be less confrontational if I didn't get these incredibly ridiculous and frankly, utterly stupid responses to my points. I say Shepard's actions should matter. The actions of the protagonist should matter. That is a pretty basic premise of storytelling. That the protagonist should DO things.

And what do I get? Accusations that I want Shepard to be Rambo. Or a magic Jedi who uses the force to crush the Reapers.

Infiltrator Shepard is more like the Predator, which is kind of awesome.

Actually, I think that's the final message of the Citadel DLC.

Clone asks what makes you so special... Shep looks at his/her friends. Clone looks at Maya, who turns away and leaves him.
