Don't forget the final run of the Suicide Mission. If you kill off the entire squad, Shepard will die. The previous games establish just how important Shepard's allies really are, right down to a former teammate scooping up his/her carcass off of some alien world to return to the land of the living.

Ugh. I hate that Rambo has become such a parody of the cliche guns-blazin' hero, when First Blood is such a legitimately strong film.

Sorry, don't mind me. Carry on.

Don't get me wrong, friends and allies are an irreplaceable and invaluable asset. They mean a great deal.

But they don't mean everything. Power must start somewhere else.

No, I agree. First Blood belongs up there with post Vietnam films like Deerhunter and Taxi Driver, in my opinion.

As I remember, it's the Crucible that wins the war, not Shepard. He just activates it.

Yes, and that's a very significant problem with the current plotline that needs to be addressed for an ideal alternative.

So basically you are disappointed you (Shepard) didn't get to Rambo it up and the end.

I could probably be accused of wanting to "Rambo it up at the end." Because of the Catalyst I didn't feel like I really won on my own steam. Not saying using the Crucible myself and watching the Reapers go boom would be a perfect ending, but I would have preferred it.

Why can't you draw your power from your friends and allies? Why can't that be the source of your strength? I know that's how my Shepard is.

Shepard get's by with a little help from his friends. I think we can all agree with that.

How many times do I have to say that friends are an incredibly asset? They are. And you can absolutely draw strength from them.

But they cannot be everything.

First Blood is the only one I've actually watched I think. And I agree that it was a stong film.

They can't. If you're powerless and helpless without friends, making them won't make you strong. Or at least, they won't make you strong solely on the basis of having friends.

Hi everyone!

Sorry I'm a little late to crashing this thread. What're we talking about now? Rambo?

Oh that!

I'd argue David is right, if your friends are the only strength you have, you have no strength. Strong friends are a multiplying factor, not an inherent value.

You're missing the point. Where do you draw your initial strength to begin with? The strength comes from the connections and relationships of your friends and romances and whatever. You draw your strength from the people you care about, internally and externally. Of course, you don't have to, but my Shepard certainly draws his strength from the few people he cares about. It's how he is who he is.

Both inner strength and strength from friendship are important. Though you could technically get by on just one or the other, you flourish with both.

Motivation isn't always good enough. You need power. And power comes from recognizing yourself.

Friends are great to have, but in the end they cannot be your only source. There may come a time when they will not be there for you. You have to be able to go it alone. That is a lesson I've learned in life.

I agree that having them is a strength multiplier.

Such it is with Shepard. Shepard is strong because of Shepard. Shepard's friends make Shepard stronger.

That's BS if I ever heard it. That is your motivation. Motivation is everything. What you said is motivation.

But what makes Shepard keep standing and going forward when he's alone? I think that strength comes from his friends. It's internal as much as it is external.

Now I'm wondering what david's shepard would think if his love interest, say tali, sang out of tune? I mean, would he stand up and walk out on her, or stick around and lend an ear?
