Both inner strength and strength from friendship are important. Though you could technically get by on just one or the other, you flourish with both.

A human being is an incredible thing.
A miracle of engineering. Somethings I sit and flex my fingers and marvel at the beautiful simplicity of it.
Millions of years of evolution. Capable of inventing and overcoming and problem solving. Capable of learning and applying incredible things. Capable of astounding feats. Capable of changing the world.
And there are few, so very few people in this world that recognize that. That truly believe it.
You look at most people, and more often than not, they're crippled by the mundane challenges they face. They resign themselves to lives and jobs and people they don't particularly like. Things that could easily change with the right state of mind. They've forgotten what their power as a human being is. Or they never learned it in the first place.
Perfectly valid.MassivelyEffective0730 wrote...

You can make your inner strength stem from your friendship. That can be where you draw your strength from. That's how I call it.

Friends are great to have, but in the end they cannot be your only source. There may come a time when they will not be there for you. You have to be able to go it alone. That is a lesson I've learned in life.
I agree that having them is a strength multiplier.
Such it is with Shepard. Shepard is strong because of Shepard. Shepard's friends make Shepard stronger.
But what makes Shepard keep standing and going forward when he's alone? I think that strength comes from his friends. It's internal as much as it is external.
I think wat he is trying to say is that u need to know wat u can do by your self and that u don't need a pep talk all u need is to know what u can do.MassivelyEffective0730 wrote...

Motivation isn't always good enough. You need power. And power comes from recognizing yourself.
That's BS if I ever heard it. That is your motivation. Motivation is everything. What you said is motivation.

No, that's Shepard's motivation, because without his/her friends or loved ones, after a while all Shepard has is death and pain, and that is not enough. Or Shepard could have enough survival instinct to keep going. Sometimes the latter is enough.

What's this got to do with inner strength in war?

What would he do when his love is away?
What would he feel at the end of the day when the battle and fighting is through? Does he feel worried about being alone? Or maybe sad over being by himself?
A man cannot support the world on his shoulders and keep fighting without something worth fighting for.
That's why I think he needs his friends in order to get by in the war effort, and why they are equally if not more so important than shepard.

Reckognizing one's own ability is just as important as cooperation in war. A single weak soldier can bring down the whole unit around them - which is why you can't rely entirely on your friends.
A single soldier can, however, turn the tide of a battle alone.

I like The Beatles, but to be honest, I don't think With A Little Help From My Friends is one of their better songs.Darth Brotarian wrote...
