Also they can at least design their own compass instead of literally stealing from Skyrim...

While it's not really a gamebreaker for me, I would prefer a minimap. Easier to look at, and you can still have the icons at the edges just like a compass.

Skyrim's compass bar was pretty inconvenient. I don't want to know just the vague direction of my goal, I want to know if there's a great big mountain or wall or river in the way.
At least I'd like to know if my goal is 500 metres underground from where I'm standing.

+10000. Navigating around those mountains got annoying quickly

^^ Yes! That was mildly infuriating about Skyrim's compass.
I do hope DA:I will have a mini map

PLZ bring us the mini map... i dont want people to laugh at me..but im bad with freaking compass in game, i played skyrim a bit and stoped because of the stupid compass... could never freaking find my way.... i like to know where my objective are... and the map feel right to me... but as others said.. its not a gamebreaker....
It was very bad. I ended up finishing the game, but by the end I still didn't understand the compass. It is so annoying. A game that promotes adventuring made it very difficult for me to adventure. It gave me a headache.

Yes, please, minimap. I have zero sense of direction in video games. In fact forget minimap, we have mounts now, it's time for lyrium powered, horse mounted satnav - 'Turn left at the next hurlock corpse.'
I fully support this idea!

^This. Definitely this. And it can even have a an annoying voice like iPhone Siri if that would make Bioware more okay with giving us a convenient tool. I don't mind randomly shouting, 'Shut up, Siri!' as long as she's helpful at LEAST 90% of the time. xD

The Skyrim compass was a dramatic improvement on the compasses from Oblivion and Morrowind, but it took a long time to get used to it being up top of the screen. That was the only real problem with it I found, though.
It's not like it was difficult to use. Come to a mountain? Hike over it. Takes a minute or two to get over. Alternatively, use a bucket (flying glitch). xD
I think I can see why they went with an Elder Scrolls-like compass instead of a mini-map (though I'm hoping we get a toggle to swap between); the explorable enviroments are now dramatically bigger than they were in the first two games, so that'd be the main reason. The problem is, the compass works much better in first person than it does in third -- it feels out of place by comparison. But, if the explorable, open areas of Inquisition are really that big, a compass may or may not work out better in the long run.
There's.. still a small hope that they'll implement a mini-map instead? A tiny one? I'm completely fine with either of them but I know I'd immediately go for the mini-map if given the choice, since it's perfect for Dragon Age.
