I never missed it in Skyrim and never needed it in Dragon Age.

Depends on how big and maze-y the levels are in Inqusition I suppose.

No maps at all. The game will come with graph paper and a pencil. #dealwithit

I don't really need a minimap, i also really dislike seeing enemies on a mini map (red dots). As long as you can quickly go to a map that is fine with me. Please for the love of god make it a clear map though. The fallout games had me pulling my hair out with their horrendous pip boy maps.

They don't need to put anything on the map as long as there is directions and quest objective. I want to know where I'm going. Imagine if you're in a dungeon, I don't want to walk through the same corridors. I don't want to be stuck in there like a maze...I had issues in the Deep Roads in DAO, and that was with a mini map lol.

For massive outdoor areas, a minimap is not really that helpful. I'm assuming there is a larger map you can bring up on command.

Yes, please, minimap. I have zero sense of direction in video games. In fact forget minimap, we have mounts now, it's time for lyrium powered, horse mounted satnav - 'Turn left at the next hurlock corpse.'

As long as we can TOGGLE the mini map on and off then I am all for it. I hated that you could NOT toggle it in DA2

With all the GOOD BioWare has brought back, this is the least thing on my mind atm. I don't *mind* the map, either way is fine for me.

well, that's a no-brainer for me:

I want my god-damned mini-map (hell i would love something transparent to overlay on the screen like the map in Diablo II as well (mini-map is nice to navigate greater distances, but for details a larger map is required and i don't want to have to stop running/riding in order to look at a map often!))

greetings LAX
ps: i don't get lost without it, but it makes things easier to find (it's a thing of convenience versus tediousness IMHO - and i hate things being tedious!)

I prefer the compass from the PAX demo actually, I like my UI's to be as uncluttered as possible.

I had no problem at all navigating with the compass in the world of Skyrim and you know that you can filter things right to make it easier, the only times I had problems finding my way was in in doors and caves, etc.

I'm ok with a compass and access to a main map for outdoor areas but I definitely need a minimap for indoors. Spending my time wandering around the same half-dozen rooms doesn't do much for me.

Yeah I think this is pretty reasonable.  Outdoors a compass is more organic-exploration-inclined while indoors a slowly revealed mini map based on where you've been makes a lot more sense.

PLZ bring us the mini map... i dont want people to laugh at me..but im bad with freaking compass in game, i played skyrim a bit and stoped because of the stupid compass... could never freaking find my way.... i like to know where my objective are... and the map feel right to me... but as others said.. its not a gamebreaker....

I never got through more than 8hrs of Oblivion because of the travel system and stupid compass

If they were to keep the compass, I hope you at least get an area map that shows your marker is behind a mountain and the path is over to the left so you don't go all the way to the right and find nothing.

The compas was never really that hard to native and you could filter things and not having a mini map is not a deal breaker.

Also they are talking about adding a marker system to help us navigate and mark places to visit later.

The UI as a whole is rather simplistic. I hope it's because of pre alpha and that it gets more stylized later on.
Simplistic UIs always irked me for some reason. It gave the sense that the developers didn't care enough about the game which I know is false (devs care for their baby) but that's the vibe I get out of it.

I kind of think they should use the compass method, remember they are emphasizing exploration. If you have a mini map you are more likely to follow that map as oppose to wonder haphazardly. On a mini map you are more likely to not notice places of interest that aren't directly associated with your current objective as its a small map which can't fit everything, where as the compass can at least like in skyrim show you various icon related locals that might interest you if you deviate from your intended course a bit.

You'd think this would go without saying, but no.

Minimaps are great if your game is made up of small areas. DA:I is not a game made up of small areas.

I don't mind a toggle between the two. But if I'm fighting a large area, I'd like a minimap to show me enemies that might not be in a current field of vision.

I'm fine with the compass, I believe the reason they are using the compass is due to the large exploitable worlds they now have. I like the idea and frees up some room for me to look into. The other 2 games didn't have a bad mini map, but I like the idea of me trying to find a area then basing my lengths of exploration to just what my mini map shows and if its a dead end ahead with nothing on the map but there "looks" to be more room I just turn around w/o trying to attempt the journey
