They couldn't do like in the AC games? If I remember correctly, the mini map was also a compass? Though if we had to choose between those two I'd prefer a map. With just a compass I would probably get soo lost.

While I would definitely prefer having some sort of mini-map, people actually had to use compasses in the olden days (yes, the real world does suck at times). I didn't find navigation via compass in Skyrim to be as much of a problem as some other people seem to. *shrug*

heh I hate to say it but, honestly there are those people who can't use a compass AND a map to navigate themselves out of a paperbag...

I guess Im in the minority here but I kinda like the compass at the top. I find it easier to use than a mini-map.

Guys, Cameron Lee tweeted about this a while back during a sprint review day, here -> https://twitter.com/...210005290385408

Now, he says "FADAR" which of course could turn out to be one of a few things. To me it sounds like "fading radar, or mini-map". So, it would pop up when you are in a particular location, or near a key location and then fade to clear that part of the screen. Or, you could bring it up via a button/key. "FADAR" may also mean - and this is stretching a bit - a special map just for use within the Fade, for example in the Black City or fade/tranquil quest lines, of course I'm speculating here.

I just want something that can tell me the depth things are at if we have environments with multiple levels.

I think the compass works well with what DA wants for the player to experience; the general sense of exploration where you set off knowing generally where something is but not specifically. As long as I can pop into a menu screen and look at a proper map I'll be happy. I don't find mini maps that helpful personally, when I need directional help its usually a bigger problem then the mini map can help me with. I do wish that Bioware had found a solution that wasn't so clearly borrowed from Skyrim; its just one more frustrating comparison people will make online, completely out of context to troll or hate on the game. I realize that happens regardless, but its frustrating all the same.

I also feel like the compass is cleaner, and given how gorgeous the world is cleaning up the screen/removing as many pop-ups as possible is probably for the best.

This is my single biggest 'concern' for the game.  (That and I won't be able to run it).  I NEED MY MINIMAP.

Probably to give more feelings of open world.

I don't mind not having a mini map outdoors, but yeah, it can be a pain when I'm indoors.
It was also a pain in the arse to switch between world map and local map in Skyrim.

detailed world map (with coordinates pretty please) AND pointers (chosen quest indicators or/and a pointer to specific location with text "check out that cave" or sth) AND compass in HUD would be excellent.

Same as quite a lot of people, I will buy and enjoy the game without a minimap but it will be very inconvenient. I play Skyrim a lot and it's radar isn't at all satisfying.

I hope we get a minimap that is small or faded in combat and out of combat is there so you can get around easier. It still is not my biggest concern but it would be best this way.

Skyrim's bar is the exact same as FO3 FO:NV only well prettier. And really it wasn't all that bad, if you really wanted to know if there was a mountain in the way, Look at where you are headed, if you se peaks, there are mountains in your way.

What made Skyrim annoying was the Map, I mean seriously who makes a map without roads i mean seriously... however modders to the rescue on that one, its one of the mods that is always in my load order.

But yea minimap is more "DA" style to me. tho in reality do we need it? if we really need a map just put it int he options menu

Someone at Bethesda also decided that adding moving clouds to the Skyrim in-game map would somehow improve it . Stupid google maps.

Isn't DAI supposed to allow the player a bird's eye perspective? Making a mini-map redundant at least some of the time. Having  just a full map that can be brought up in the options menu might work well. Just allow quick views and allow  the map to stay on the area and at the scale you adjust to.
