So far my review is: this is a pay-to-win game. I get that micro-transactions are essential in a free game but there's no way you could get past a lot of stages unless you decide to use real money to purchase gems or the ultimate pack.

The epic heroes are about 2x stronger than the rare ones (I bought one just to see the difference). And I'm not sure about the change of getting the epic and legendary from the champion pack (38 gems... gems are so hard to get in game that you might as well even use money to purchase it lol). So that boils down to the best pack that you could earn totally "in-game" without real money which is the Soldier pack.

My rate of getting a rare/gold warrior from the Soldier pack so far is: 5 out of the 30-40 Soldier packs I have opened. Maybe I'm just unlucky but it seems that the chance of getting an epic/legendary from even the Champion pack is almost as good as hitting a certain lottery rate.

So I guess for those who want to download the game, you either have to be: 1) patient and just grind in any way you can and be ready for the amount disappointment from the "free" packs. 2) spend a few bucks (I think $10 = 5 Ultimate packs does not sound crazy unreasonable, but I know people drew a line between spending a certain amount of money on mobile games). 3) Just be a super casual player and play the game for fun.

The kind of gamer you are should probably determine whether you want to download this game or not :P

EDIT: just when I was about to give up, the Champion pack gave me Varric LOL

If you guys don't care about the leaderboard rankings, the most efficient way to pvp is to remove all but one members of your party when you aren't playing. This way you're pretty much guaranteed to lose to anyone who challenges you. This causes you to lose trophy rank and causes them to gain more.

As pvp rewards are entirely based on relative ranking, you begin to get inflated rewards against people who actually have weaker teams than yourself. Additionally, you get a nice list in the battle history of people who've attacked you and probably now have higher ranking than you, many of whom you can actually beat easily.

This has actually been somewhat helpful in dramatically increasing the amount of gold and experience I've earned compared to before. Thanks for the suggestion.

Out of curiosity, for those who have been playing: has anyone gotten Zevran yet?  I'm hopeful he's recruitable :)

Hey everyone, I'm one of the game designers for Heroes of Dragon Age.  I'm glad you folks are enjoying the game!

We do encourage you to use the official Heroes of Dragon Age forums for discussion of the game:

http://forums.klickn...display.php/174
(Capital Games used to be a startup called KlickNation before we were acquired by EA!)

Anyway, to answer your question, Zevran isn't currently in the game but he is planned for a future update in the fairly near future (within a few months)...  our update schedule is pretty intense :)

Facebook is mandatory to register on your forum.  No thank you.

Paying fees definitely makes it easier, but you can basically do most of it through grinding. Also, you have to claim your rewards, which gives you tons of gold and gems. I completely neglected that until recently and damn, that was a lot of loot. Soldier Pack gives you a fair chance at rare heroes, but they're best for getting consumable heroes to boost your main team.

I was trying to unlock the quest for Sten drop and the boss fight in the place has like 3 epic heroes and 1 legendary hero- I am assuming Green is legendary. I only got a team of 1 epic hero- Orsino and the rest being gold. I noticed a Gold team barely can make it through an Epic team let alone one Legendary hero. My issue is that Blue is greater than Black and Black is greater than White, the team consist of 3 epic Whites and one Legendary Blue. The Blue team wipes my team like paper burning in a fire.

What should I do to get pass this? I am trying to progress to all those quest that will possibly give time event drops like Sten and such.

Another thing I might have to try out Vandicus suggestion, trying to be good in pvp just isnt paying off. I barely got my 500 trophies.

The necessity to grind in this game gets old real fast, and turns a potentially fun game into a total bore. I have removed it from my tablet.

I was having fun with this game until I hit a wall. I have been grinding for about a month now. I can not even touch the sixth map or even beat some past levels to get more gems I never get any of the characters that you can possibly get in the challenge maps. I have consumed so many warriors that my group can no longer consume any. I guess once you get your 2x damage chance to 15% on a character you can no longer consume more. I wouldn't care if I could no longer get that percentage higher, but I should still be able to consume to get the XP. I have spent all the money I am going to in this game and even with doing that I have never gotten a legendary. Got very frustrating after a while.

The game is poorly balanced. I still play it because I hope to get a Fenris and make some progress one day (and because, I'll admit, I've been lucky with packs), but it's still terribly balanced.

I currently run an Epic King Cailan II, a Legendary Merrill II, a Legendary Queen of the Blackmarsh, Legendary Sandal, and Epic Sebastian...and I still cannot beat the first quest of the Uldred arc.

I just gave up on this game about three weeks ago because it's so terribly unbalanced. It's a shame really because I don't mind pay-to-play to some extent but this game just makes it a money sink and I feel like it's a rip off. I haven't deleted the game from my phone yet, but it is probably the next one to go when I'm trying to make room for a new app, to be honest.

I don't find the game unbalanced, and I haven't spent a cent on it. Epics can be had without paying for them (I have one), and Rares are routinely awarded as random bonuses for defeating quests.

After the update that was a couple of weeks ago:

1) drop rates from the gold purchase packs are horrid. You'll either get a common (brown) or an uncommon (silver) most of the time....these are generally only good for consuming. If you're lucky you get a gold (rare) ..... very lucky you get a bronze (epic, I think I've gotten 1 this way) and if you have God's own luck you might get a green (legendary, never gotten one myself) (and I've earned the consumed over 500 characters bonus....so I've used a lot of packs...doesn't include all the characters I've combined..)

2) drop rates for the 'special quests?) So far I've seen the GW Carver, Sten, Fenris quests (couldn't do Anders since he was on the lvl 7 map).....but spending all my health on those quests, and winning 90% of them....never got the 'special' character.....IF I even got a character drop....either it was no drop, or maybe a low level rune.

3) You hit a paywall waaaaayyyyyyy to fast. I got frustrated, so I paid, I'll admit, lucked out an got a couple of epic characters.....still stuck after 2 weeks on the first quest to Uldred's Promise....no hope on that one. I'm up against 3 legendary characters,......on the first node of the map. That's insane. I have characters that are near lvl 30 now with 20% change of double hits.....runes do nothing to help......OOooh! An armor rune that means my character with 1700 hp will take 75 less points in damamge....bah.

4) Don't bother in upping the % to 2x hit for your characters.....it seems like the higher the %, the less often they hit for 2x damage....and if they do hit for 2x damage.....they're hitting for like 10% of what their power rating is. (Nothing like having a character with a poer of 880, normally hitting for 600 to 800 points, but then 2x hits....and does 175 damage....wth)

The update was great for adding more ways to add gold, more ways to add very paltry gem bonues (if you earn all the gems from bonuses you might be able to buy one and half champion packs...).
But there are still massive balance issues.....(map level difficulty.....PVP balance issues.).

Champion packs that you buy with the gems are way too pricey just for a CHANCE at a legendary hero.

I'm running epic and legendary characters at > lvl 20, and getting chewed through on the maps like my characters were noobs right out of training. I'm lucky if anyone survives past round 1.

Sebastian is not a terribly good character(most quick units aren't).

Have you upgraded your crits? What with having a Merrill, Sandal, and Queen of the Blackmarsh, your crits should destroy them.

I beat it with a Grey Warden Mage(Rare) and Corypheus(epic) in my back row, and a Varric(legendary) and Cassandra(epic) front row, with an Inferno Golem(epic) as my large, and two power runes. Cassandra and Varric were both able to survive an abomination hit, so my back row guys were able to go at least twice. Just need to run it until you get a couple crits off.

I initially had a Legendary Isabela, but she just wasn't cutting it.
Yeah, my crits are up to at least 12% on each one, and they are all at least level 20.

You may just have to level a bit more. You could potentially use Isabela to tank if she can take one abomination hit without dying, but in general I agree she's not particularly strong. One of the game's major balance issues is how pretty much all quick units suck. Alternatively if you have any AoE stunner units you could place in the back row, Stroud, Desire Demon, Fenris, etc., you might be able to get by with some RNG luck.

On the bright side once you finish that one, the rest of the quests up to Par Vollen are relatively passable. The rest of "The Highway" at the very least is a cakewalk. If the difficulty display is medium, I'd consider throwing on some runes and burning all your tries to get past it, then never look back.
