The Miranda fan base split is hardly unique.

I've heard that Tali and Liara fans have had similar bouts.

No clue about Liara, but we Talimancers get along just fine and dandy.

Perhaps now, but I've heard of at least two distinct splits

I haven't noticed anything major. I've only witnessed about one or two fights in 2 or so years. Nothing as dramatic, as the Mirimancer civil war.

Just wondering, over what? S/S romance? Face?

Face and admiral status afaik for one.  Not sure about the other

Most Talimancers I know like the final Tali face, it's usually the non-Talimancers, that want a more alien face. Who in their right mind would want an ugly Tali.

Why do you even care, unless you romance Tali?

Its insulting for BioWare to be so lazy to such a large fanbase

Even when the fanbase doesn't care? Stop trying to be a hero.

Some Tali fans do care, I know someone is making a mod with fanart replacing it

... who dies during the Turian bomb mission on Tuchanka?

Don't get me wrong, I love Garrus. He's Batman... I mean, uh, Archangel. The conversations with Garrus throughout the game are among my favourites. I always let Garrus have his 'favourite spot on the Citadel'. I felt ashamed the one time I tried not missing the bottle on purpose. Like I kicked a puppy or something. He and Zaeed booby-trapping Shepard's apartment in the Citadel DLC is hilarious. Garrus is the man.

I'm just saying, what if Victus' son died during the first part of that mission, and Garrus had to take over? I could see him saying, "It's old tech. I know what to do," when they're talking about it on the Normandy, or on the shuttle on the way to the mission.

Wow. The game would be very different.

And anyone who says it's not so bad because they let Garrus die during the suicide mission through the Omega Relay is a heathen.

j/k.

not really.

I like that idea. Garrus dying would have been a good addition to add to how the whole reaper war is affecting Shepard personally.

One possibility to make Garrus interesting. I wasn't too happy with him as a character. Way too much fanservice for my taste.

Maybe they decided to go a little overboard on the fanservice to Garrus to make up for the endings? <ducking>

1. Almost every single Talimancers I've spoken to, both IRL and on the BSN, hate the face.

2. Alien does not equal ugly. You seem really keen on pressing this weird, unique-to-you ideal of "beauty" in regards to aliens.

Steelcan is correct.

Considering how much this forum complaints about romances, it somewhat irritates me that not a lot of people immediately notice the very glaring and serious problem with having a love interest die with no foreshadowing.

You obviously have not been to the Tali forum before...

Case dismissed.

Fyi, the vast, vast majority of Talimancers doesn't hate the face itself, just the execution. We just want more than a cheapo photoshop.

Forcing a squad mate to die in an early mission in the game would be awfully written, especially if it's a character that's been there since the beginning of the trilogy. The mission would have to be priority, and Garrus would need a reason to be forced down on Tuchanka to begin with, which would not make much sense at all. I wouldn't expect him to be a compulsory squad member for anything less than his own home world, same as Liara and Tali.

I agree with the forced death. But I feel we should have been given far more missions in the game that could have resulted in squadmate death via you screwing up.

When I started this topic, I was just about to begin the whole genophage story arc, including all the side missions that go with it. It got me thinking about Mordin and Thane and I know we all thought Grunt was gone for a minute there. And I thought, wow what if Garrus dies somewhere in here, too.

Tonight I played through the genophage cure arc. Best part of the game in my opinion. So many highs and lows. Having Garrus die in there somewhere too.. phew, that's almost overload.

But with a few changes I could see being done. Maybe tied to Garrus' loyalty, like Grunt in the rachni mission.

Exactly the point, and IIRC from my occasional wanderings into the Tali forum that something less human with lines painted on was wanted. Sure, the actual face used is an attractive one which would've been fine as a starting point.

There definitely needed to be more ways of screwing up. I'd have liked it to be very, very hard to get to the end of the game without losing anyone, but not impossible. I'd hate to have lost anyone unavoidably (I'm afraid I don't really count Thane since he was doomed anyway). Not all possible losses should involve a choice between saving the person or some bigger goal either. Mordin was enough for me there (and despite him being one of my favourite characters I thought that was done well). But too many "Kill you favourite characters or let loads of other people die" choices would just end up getting me angry at the writers for dicking with me.

A few cases of something like "get to this point in less than 30 seconds to save them" and it being diifficult to achieve would've been good. Sure, you can always reload but I think designing things with that in mind is very unfair to an "honest" playthrough (that's your first one, with no reloading and no metagaming, and it's when the emotions are at the highest).

This is a video game.

It's not an exam. It's not a chore. It's not a headache. It's not work.

It's a game. A product designed to be beatable with a minimum of frustration by a reasonably competent child.

A game.

It should never get to the point where the optimal way to play the game is to no longer have fun. And it sounds to me like that's what they're suggesting. A frustrating challenge where the majority of people are just going to reload until they get it right or give up in annoyence. So either way, nobody is having fun.

Is that good design to you?

Tell that to Mega Man, Ghouls n' Goblins, Contra, Castlevania, Dark Souls (and Demon Souls), Call of Duty: World at War (on Veteran), and Ninja Gaiden.

Mass Effect is not and should not be Mega Man, Contra, Castlevania, Dark Souls (and Demon Souls), and Ninja Gaiden.

Players should not have to be denied the best story solely because their reflexes aren't as good.

And? Those are all video games, just as ME is a video game. Why *should* ME not be as difficult as those?
