See, that's what I mean by variety. It adds depth to the characters, it makes them unique and not "just another gay elf" and it helps you avoid those awkward situations (Anders' first flirting attempt in the clinic if you aren't interested comes to mind).

Also, I think one of Cassandra's lines if Hawke is male implies she has a crush on him, which doesn't happen if Hawke is female. So to me that hints she's straight.

Gaider himself have stated explicitly that, if given more resources, variety would be the way he'd prefer to go, but as it is, inclusiveness takes precedence. "Realistic" or not.

I'm hoping the extra year also came with extra funds.

I had something similar with Bethany. Why did she have to be Hawke's sister?! :(

SO HOW 'BOUT THAT CULLEN HE SURE SEEMS LIKE AN INTERESTING CHOICE FOR ROMANCE

YES YES YES I AGREE *cough cough*

I mean, he has a lot of issues, with the fall of two Circles and all, but he also seems really caring and while he's pro-chantry to the core, even after the fall of the Circle of Ferekden he's not entirely against mages (as he opposes Meredith about the Right of Annulment at the end of DA2)
And well, have you seen that concept art in the leaked surver ? He's sexy as hell.

kissing and hugging .
It would be more realistic to show the characters in each others arms.
DA2 did that with hawke and merrill but the clothes got in the for me.
I expect Cassandra will be romancible by both sexes.
People seem so excited about her there would be a revolt in the BSN if she wasn't.

Especially if there's going to be nine permanent companions. It seems like a good opportunity to have more romance options available, and the variety of sexualities.

Well i hope she is available to both as i think that if not she will be available to neither like Aveline.

I wanted to romance Aveline tho. :(
I wonder if there will be a character who's not available to protagonist...

"Meredith bb why are you trying to kill me we can work this out shh let's sit down and have some tea and talk about your feelings why are you glowing like that OH GOD-"

Basically. (What? I liked Meredith. Don't judge me.)

I agree about Aveline though. She really grew on me and I liked her relationship with my Hawke. They didn't always see eye to eye, but Aveline was always there when it counted.
Plus, my one male!Hawke playthrough would have been so much more fulfilling if he didn't end up forever alone because his awkward advances flew right over Aveline's head.

I assume there may well be 5 of them.

If its the line i think your making reference to, then Cassandra will still say it regardless of Hawke's gender.

Nope, If Hawke is male and defeats Arishok in single combat, she calls it "very romantic" with a very charmed expression. And Varric calls her out on developing a "Crush".

Whereas she just says "Very heroic" for femHawke. And Varric calls her out on developing "A case of hero worship".

Not true. I'm doing a fem!Hawke playthrough right now and Cassandra used the "romantic" line. She practically had hearts in her eyes, though Varric claims she has a case of "hero worship" rather than a crush. So it's ambiguous.

Cullen is basically the opposite of what I want to see from male LIs in DA:I. But if he's available, no biggie, I just won't romance him.

Well, that's strange. I've played it several times with male Hawke and several times with femHawke. She ALWAYS acts as I said above.

Are you on PC too?

I got the "romantic" line on a Fem!Hawke as well. I think it's depends of your relationship with Isabela and how the scene leading to the single combat plays out.

I am on PC, fully updated to the latest patch, no mods of any kind. Cassandra has always, to my knowledge, used the "romantic" line. Varric then claims a case of hero worship and she waves it off as admiring Hawke for bringing herself up from nothing. But it certainly doesn't negate the hearts-in-eyes moment.

Might it be dependant on your Hawke's personality?
Maybe Cassandra only uses that line when Hawke has a certain dominant tone.

She always calls dueling the Arishok "romantic". But (according to Varric) Female Hawke always inspires "a case of hero worship" and Male Hawke inspires "a crush."

OH! OOOH! RIGHT! Sorry, I just mixed it up with another scene where she calls Hawke heroic.

Yes she says "Very romantic" for both Hawkes. But Varrics responses vary.:P

This has been my experience. The difference lies in Varric's interpretation, not Cassandra's reaction.

Yeah but Varric is your typical everyday person who always assumes the women are attracted to men and vice versa.:P

Eh. I imagine there will be ten companions. Nine in main game and one made specifically as the day one DLC add on.

As far as how many romance options there should be, I again think it should depend on the character and whether it'd make sense for them to be a choice. And if a number HAS to come into play, I hope its not too many.

Then again, if each romanceable character is different and unique as far as who they potentially could/would have feelings for, the majority of the party could be romanceable and it wouldn't be hard to believe as at any one time, our options wouldn't number so high.

But however this goes depends on not just opinions but time and money, so we'll see how it ends up.

Varric is hardly objective or even a completely reliable narrator. His interpretation of a woman he's only known for a few hours doesn't necessarily have to be accurate, and it certainly isn't a definitive statement on Cassandra's sexuality.
