The Game Informer update seems to say DAI will have few romances, .
That Bioware is cutting back on them
shrugs.
So it's possible the player would have to do some things outside the main story arc to trigger the romances, .
There would be fewer and not all the companions would be romancible.
That's my guess as to what the article is saying.
If true I am disappointed.
shrugs.

DAO and DA2 each had four potential romances. They haven't released specifics on how many there will be in DAI but the implications are that it will be a similar number. Pointing out that their resources are  limited is not the same as saying "DAI will have fewer romances than DAO/DA2".

I believe certain companions should be straight , some gay, and some bi.
Loved the way DAO was done, didn't like the way DA2 was done.
Didn't like the decision to make so many of DA2 's companions bi.

Actually DA2's Love Interests were the perfect example of herosexual. For instance, Anders says nothing about his love for Karl if Hawke is female. It only ever comes up if Hawke is male. For a player with a female Hawke, Anders pretty much comes across as straight.

Isabella was established as bisexual in DAO.

Sebastian was straight, and it's a good bet Aveline was too. Varric was Biancasexual.

As for Merrill, Fenris and Tallis... None of them mention being attracted to the non-Hawke gender, so they could be straight or gay if you want to imagine them as such. The only sexuality they exhibit is reflective of the Hawke in their game.

So grand tally?

1 bisexual
2 straight
1 object oriented ;)
4 herosexual

Seriously, though... You do know that people don't walk around with their sexuality stamped onto their foreheads, right?

Not so sure about that, BI's, gays and lesbians are like vegetarians. How do you know someone is a vegetarian? Don't worry, they'll tell you.

:P

Yes I am very much aware you're not being serious here. I laughed when I read it and agreed.

But heterosexuals are just as guilty of shouting about their sexuality too... In fact, they are even louder about it. The thing is, they're not often aware that they're even doing it - I mean, who even thinks about talking about their other gender partner in terms of it being a delcaration of their sexuality?  But that's exactly what it is. :)

I never said anything about having a lack of resources.
Players can read the GI article and draw their own conclusions .
To me it indicates DAI will have fewer romances, .
As I said I find that disappointing.

Fenris and Isbela hook up if you don't romance either as Male of Female Hawke.  Merrill flirts with Carver, I believe.  So either sraight or bisexual.

I hope they'll go with 2 bi, 2 straight plan as they did in DA:O
Back then sexuality was not just a part of fanservice but also a part of their backstory and character.

And where are the gays? Or did you forgot that gay people exist?:?
If that's you want, i'd prefer 2 gays, 2 bi and 2 straight.

A fair treatment is always best, i'm so tired of straights getting more LIs.

Since it'd likely be sth like...
Cassandra, Cullen - straight
Vivenne, Dorian/mage - bi
They'd either have to choose two gay charaters from the rest 5 characters (no Varrik for sure so... Which one would you choose? The Iron Bull XD? Sera maybe?) or create new ones. And though Samantha and Cortez were good friends, I think that creating a character solely for LI purposes is a bad idea unless it is some Romance Video Novel Game
Lack of resources is kinda a problem...

The DA team can figure it out. And Cassandra straight? No thanks.^_^ As i've said, i don't want another Morrigan or Miranda or Ashley.
Having characters that are available to straights too it's annoying. That means we get 2 romanceable chars and the straights 4? Nope.
We'd like to have gays who are only available to same gender, for once and that they're more than just 2.

Traynor - Cortez were nice but they were the only gays, and they didn't even had nice romance content and that was ridiculous as hell. I'd like to believe that DA team can do A LOT better than freaking ME team.

Edit: and if they can't figure it out, then there's a solution. Make the romanceable characters playersexual and problem solved. :)

This is nor a Sim Dating game and Bioware are not Gods who can do anything. Resources are the problem. Making 11 characters instead of 9 just for LI is bothersome even for plot
Cassandra has shown that she is interested in men. Canon, no matter how much you hate/love anime DotS. Bi or straight
Making all bi is simply cheap writing and unrealstic.
You make every romance and it's content unique meaning that sexuality isn't there for being there. It is a result of biological attraction, personality, backstory, values and norms one believes in. It is not a colourful dress which you can change every day depending on your mood
Lelianna and Zevran are perfet examples of bi/gay characters. They're from Antiva and Orlais, one bard, another a Crow. Such thing is almost a norm there. Alister and Garrus are perfect examples od straight characters. They don't mind bi and gays but they are simply not interested in it.
So, quality >quanity

Personally I want to flirt with Varrik and Iron Bull. Just for fun or lolz XD

I agree that this is not a dating sim, but as someone who wants to engage in the romance subplots, you should understand why it is important to other players as well.  Here's the issue with only 2 straight and 2 bi LI's:

1.)  That means that there are only 2 of each gender
2.)  That means that there is only 1 option for each gender for same sex romance
3.)  That means that I don't get any choice in the romance and either have to romance someone who I'm not interested in or not enjoy a romance, which I do
4.)  That also means that "straight" romancers get an option, which seems unfair to me.  Why give "straight" options but not "gay" options?

For me, it's about equity.  I don't have a problem with the way that they did it in ME3.  I actually think it was a great way to implement it.  Multiple male and female romances for both "straight" and "gay" characters.  Were some of them more well developed?  Yes, but that's not as much of an issue for me.  I want a choice, the same way that other players get one.  That's really all I'm asking for.

The "all bi" thing doesn't bother me as much because I don't view the character as existing outside of that particular playthrough.  So to me, Anders isn't "bi" except in a male Hawke playthrough.  In a female Hawke playthrough, he's straight.  Same with Fenris.  Same with Merrill (except reversed).  The only true "bi" characters were Leliana, Zevran, and Isabela (and Anders in a male Hawke game).

I do, however, agree that characters shouldn't be added in just to be a romance option.  Traynor and Chambers had roles that made sense to me, so I didn't mind them.  Steve was a bit more questionable.  He does feel like he's just there to be a gay romance option.  Now I think that he fills an important role in that way, but it did feel a bit tacked on.

In an ideal world. I feel that six love interests would be the optimal number. Three men, three women, two straight, two gay, two bi. That way straight PCs and gay PCs have an equal number of options. (And bisexual PCs have six! Everyone wins.)

With nine companions in DAI, it's possible that six of them are love interests, although not very likely. It's also conceivable that the Inquisitor can romance people who aren't companions, like in Mass Effect.

Since this is not an ideal world, I'm not expecting BioWare to have the resources to write more than four romances. That being the case, I'd strongly prefer for all of them to be bisexual. Otherwise gay PCs (and by extension, gay players who want to roleplay their own orientation) are stuck without a choice.

You realize that bi people don't behave in one single stereotypical way, right? Just as straight people don't. There aren't personalities that "fit" a certain sexuality better.

ANYWAY make this discussion stop, please, we've had it too many times. I believe gaider said that they'll have the same number of romances as in the other games, aka 4. Personally, I just want Vivienne and bald elf guy for my fem!Inquisitors, pretty please?

If you think those "searches" went to ask every single human being in this planet about their sexuality then i don't know what to say. Just think a little.
There are people that won't even dare say their sexuality due to many, many reasons. The 5% is not even close to the people of the whole world.
Trust me, many people say that this is flawed and if you want to believe those unaccurate "facts" because they asked only a 'handful' from the world, that's your problem. ^_^ It's also due to the 'biased' world we live, we are taught from young that only straight people exist and etc. So yeah, forgive me if i don't believe these "facts" in the slightest bit.

Ok, now you're being rude. If you want gay men and women to have the same number of options in romance as straight men and women do, that's fine, that's understandable.
On the other hand, depreciating the bissexual romances because they happen to be attracted to both opposite and same gendered people is borderline offensive.

If you are hoping for Cassandra to be exclusively lesbian in DAI, I fear you'll be disappointed. For one, there have been hints of her being attracted to males and, unlike Steve and Sam, she has previously appeared in the DA franchise and a large part of her fanbase, which has requested for her inclusion as a companion and LI for years now, is male and I doubt Bioware will be deliberately looking to alienate all those fans.

LOL. She has been only attracted to one man (don't tell me about male hawke because she does exactly the same to female Hawke). But of course, that means she's straight.... ah you silly thing. Just because it happened in front of you doesn't mean she can't have gay flings. Unless Cass says she's interested in men, there's no evidence.

Of course, using what? The kinsley reports? Pffffft. What a joke. Statistically they are massively flawed and so are the revisions. It's a good example of statistics being meaningless numbers when the underlying data corrupts the result.

Most modern census reports carried out globally by each country, which are confidential in many cases, not suffering from self selection bias, rarely exceed 5%, although it can increase slightly above 10% in particular cities.

So if you're going to use the equal representation argument, it's rather flawed and a moot point.

LOL. She has been only attracted to one man (don't tell me about male hawke because she does exactly the same to female Hawke).

She responds to Varric's accusation in a different manner. This is understandable considering his implications are different but even if we assume Cassandra had a crush on both male and female Hawke, then that still makes two males Cassandra has shown some degree of attraction to.

But of course, that means she's straight.... ah you silly thing. Just because it happened in front of you doesn't mean she can't have gay flings. Unless Cass says she's interested in men, there's no evidence.

Now you're the one putting words in my mouth. I did not suggest Cassandra can't possibly be attracted to the same gender nor do I actually care if she is. I only pointed out the ingame evidence of her being, at the very least, attracted to males and offgame evidence of how Bioware will likely not make her exlusively lesbian

Because, bottom line, the number of companion plus Cassandra's popularity plus inclusiveness plus resources will dictate more what type of Inquisitors can romance Cassandra than anything else.

Actually, I think it's based on experience.
Sexuality isn't all black and white, and someone identifying as one thing often doesn't mean they won't go for the other from time to time.
When people ask me about my sexuality, I say that I am a lesbian. Does that mean I have never felt attracted to a guy before? No. Does that mean there is no chance at all that I might end up marrying a guy? No.
I simply don't bother explaining myself because most people aren't gonna understand anyway, not to mention that it's none of their business.

I'd also like to point out that this is a discussion we've had many times before and experience tells me this topic will be shut down before long if we continue down this path.
