Dear community,

Over the past months I've been creating a 360 degree panoramic video from the world of Mass Effect 3.
Although it is still a work in progress, I think it has advanced far enough to show you what I'm trying to do.

You can find the project http://walkingwithshepard.com

Instructions: when watching the movie you can use your mouse (click & drag) or arrow-keys to look around in the video.

Let me know what you think.

- Ron

It's working smoothly, no hiccups. Preferred the ones were Shepard was moving at the same time.

Wow.
It's double-edged. Cool on one hand, makes me wonder on the other hand: ... but why? I can do that in the game, too. Looking all around, 360° I mean. Well. Except for looking straight down and straight up.
(No bashing of your work. I can't even begin to imagine what tools are necessary to capture panoramic movies like that.)

Nicely done.

I just hope it doesn't give developers ideas.  "Hey, we could just automate EVERYTHING and let the 'player' be the cameraman like a real interactive movie!"
:D

Thank you all for your comments thus far.

@SDW: I know what you mean. The idea behind it is to be able to show off a game, its world and art, online or in your pocket (mobile/tablet). It could very well serve promotional purposes. As it is video and also interactive, it sits somewhere between a regular in-game video and the game itself. For now, you, me and all fans of the series can also look at it also as a memory of the game.
I'll capture some more in the coming time. So stay tuned in the coming weeks/months for updates on this content.

@MrStoob: I'm not afraid of that. Although, using it as a means online (or tablet) to playfully introduce the game could not hurt I guess. The type of games I captured at the moment (I did one of Skyrim, ME3 (this one) and BioShock Infinite (in the works)) are all showing great art-direction or have something very characteristic. As it's still relatively new technology and unknown in this industry new ideas about how to use this will emerge. Let's see.

Interactive movie is a good idea actually. I mean, why not. With the new gadets like oculus rifts, it seems like a real posibility. And who's to define what is game and what's not. It's entertainement!

Game:
Noun
A form of play or sport, esp. a competitive one played according to rules and decided by skill, strength, or luck.
