My problem with Bolton is that, as a City Elf in Origins (played that origin so many times!), he also played Vaughn. So when he spoke, I just saw Vaughn, and I could barely get past Lothering with him.
It was a difficult to appreciate choice, to say the least.
But I have seen clips of his dialogue later on and it is a lot more emotive than most male protagonists I've seen. So I don't know it well, but I do know it's better than most, (shame about Vaughn, though it is to his credit he was memorable to me).
He was certainly an unbearable scumbag, that Vaughn (to say the very least). Boulton is a good actor, but his voice is distinctive.

Now that I think about this idea more, I really would like to see different voice actors for each set of race we can choose from (male and female). My goodness if they are extending the game another year to release just to include the multiple races, they should really make them feel unique and different from each other. It was the multiple race inclusion that brought my interest back to DAI because I now feel like they are trying to include some aspects of DAO.

As much as I'd like an Orlesian protagonist, I think that poster made a good point. Perhaps it would be better to have an Orlesian protagonist in another setting (like the Anderfels, for example) and have DA:I's protagonist come from someplace like Tevinter or Nevarra or Starkhaven, ect.

Though yeah it wouldn't hurt not to have an extremely distinctive VA voicing the characters.

Yeah, it's the accent that sounds like an identity crisis to the other nations of the world.Marakov7 wrote...
An American accent? You mean like Larry the Cable Guy...or perhaps a New York accent...or maybe a surfer dude accent...or an Boston accent where Mark sounds like "Mahk"...or the multitude of different accents heard throughout the country? I never reaized that there was actually an American accent...guess I learn something new every day.
Joking of course.

In terms of races, Kossith and dawrves have more american accents, and city elfs have either have English, American, or French (Orlais). Dalish however, have Irish and Welsh accents. Do you think bioware is going to either: make our elf a city elf by default, make them dailsh by deflaut, or go the extra mile to hire 4 different voice actors to give us the choice?
NOTE: Please keep all conversation respecful.
When did American become a language?

Joking aside accents are fine to help define groups of people in a game such as DA, but they have to be done so they don't overshadow the characters and story, and honestly some of the orleasian accents are really horrific in my opinion.

Where did anyone say that? The OP says that city elves have English, American, or French accents. Yeah, the word "accent" is dropped out, but since it's mentioned right before, that's the only way to read that sentence.
Sorry, I'm a language geek. I'll show myself out.

I'd love a Fereldan Inquisitor, if only as a connection to the previous Dragon Age heroes. However, I'll be happy with whatever we're given as long as the voice work is well done, and it pretty much always is in Bioware games (especially for female PCs for some reason).
I could see them easily having an North American or English voice actor coming back in again for human. We might not even get the background option of country of origin, they may leave that up for the player to come up with in their imagination.

It was most likely a placeholder until they decide on the final VA.

I'd like the old options from DA:O where you can choose which voice you'd like.
^^This.
maybe 4-6 choices in total, 2-3 accents per gender. especially if they give you a full preview af what the sound like and what they will say in combat.
I hated haing my warden say "should I get you a ladder so you can get of my back?" over and over. Annoying as hell.
