That's silly. That plight being inherent to mages is inherent to the setting. I think you've gotten too caught up in the hyperbole of these mage templar debates.

I'm sure mages will continue becoming blood mages and abominations and causing ontold havoc.

Mayhaps but even the bad mages present in the demo were all Tevinter rather than part of the rebellion.

You do realize not all mages and templars want to kill each other? However they are forced to fight because of extremists who view things in black&white such as yourself and many mage supporters.

Apparently some Templars have resorted to using Red Lyrium, which may drive them crazy/evil.

I really hope this is a tie-in to solving the Red Lyrium mystery

Those templars must be stupid if they take Red Lyrium.

It has to be. It remains to be seen whether the truth about it will make the 'red templars' seem like one dimensional villains, victims, or even justified...

The whole thing sounds stupid if it has nothing to do with the Red Lyrium mystery we're suppose to be solving

Maybe the dwarves/Chantry/mages are witholding the blue stuff? They need to feed their addiction somehow. Or they're going after some particularly powerful blood mages and need some way to stand a chance.

The Red Templars could be more of an extremist offshoot of the Order, more Pay Evil Unto Evil than the traditional knights. It kind of seems like they're being introduced as a mirror version of blood magic, both sides can play the "they forced me to do it card".

But most aren't that stupid, they should ask Meredith what happens to those who use Red Lyrium.

I'm going to present a possiblity which will, basically, be me grasping at straws.

In the video, you can hear how the Inquisition has already extablished a foothold in that region and how the Red Templars are trying to attack your Keep. Maybe, hopefully, the reason you're fighting templars at this junction is because, previously in the game, you made some choices that placed you at odds with them and, had you made different choices, it would be blood mages attacking.

This, of course, doesn't change the fact that having templars using red lyrium is bad by principle but it would be something, at least.

It certainly would be cool to have the Red Templars pushed to the use of red lyrium by the Inquisitor's choices.

It could work, I think. Let's say you're a Pro-Mage fighting for mage freedom and you manage to convince the dwarves to sell lyrium exclusively to your soldiers. Due to this, a great number of templars was forced to rely on Red Lyrium which makes them more dangerous.

Otherwise, if you are playing a Pro-Templar, the more you crush the mage rebellion, the more desperate they become and turn to blood magic and Abomination kamikaze attacks to fight the Inquisition.

That would be awesome for replayability.  I already have both pro-mage and pro-templar characters in mind, and having the game react and change in this manner would be kick ass.  I have my doubts about it, though.

Thanks for the linked vid. Fascinating and amazing footage.

Not really,I have a feeling the Red Templars are a more extremist splintergroup of the main Templar faction.

Doubt the red templars are using red lyrium.
More likely that's just what they call themselves now they've split from the chantry.

Except Cerberus was bad/crazy from the beginning...the Templars have good people who believe they are doing what is right. That's why I believe it's a rogue splinter group who had decided to go witch hunting and stumbled onto Red Lyrium.
