Like a lot of other people here, I've been replaying Mass Effect to get a character ready for importing into Mass Effect 2. This playthrough was done to make sure I made all the right decisions, killed off the right people, and got to Level 60.

I just wanted to confirm for other people that were wondering, that it IS POSSIBLE to get to Level 60 in your first two playthroughs. To clarify, I'm not talking about getting to level 60 in two playthroughs after you've already finished the game once. As you all know, the first time you play Mass Effect, you're capped to Level 50 -- but everytime after that, if you start a new character, you can exceed Level 50. So getting to level 60 in that situation is pretty easy: you can get to Level 50-55 with your first playthrough, then go from 55-60 in your second playthrough.

What I was scared of was using my FIRST EVER playthrough (capped at Level 50), and knowing if I could get the 10 levels needed to get to Level 60 in my 2nd playthrough. I didn't want to finish my 2nd playthrough at Level 59, and have to play a whole 3rd playthrough just to get to level 60 (and have to do all the sidequests again for importing to ME2).

Here are some notes on what I did:

- In my 2nd playthrough I had the experience bonuses from getting the Power Gamer & Completionist achievements
- I also finished and completed both DLC: Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station
- Completed every single sidequest, every single collection mission, opened every crate, killed every enemy
- Killed 99%+ of all enemies outside of the Mako, as you get a big XP bonus for that

We all know that the XP gap between Level 59 and Level 60 is HUGE -- it's more than half of a whole playthrough just for that one level. I was very scared I wasn't going to get there. However, by the time I left the Citadel for the last time and headed to Ilos, I was at 853,000 / 862,000 -- so I only needed 9,000 XP more at that point.

I ended up actually getting Level 60 just as I opened up the bunker door on Ilos. Yes!!!

Anyways, just wanted to confirm that this was possible on your first two playthroughs (not just any two playthroughs) -- so I hope this helps somebody out there in preparation for Mass Effect 2. :wizard:

I recently picked up Mass Effect again as the release of ME 2 got closer and created a new character to import. It's safe to say I did every single side quest, except for the collection missions, and made sure to kill most of the enemies on foot instead of using the mako. For some strange reason though I capped at level 50 during Virmore, I think. This shouldn't have happened since I've gotten every single achievement for ME ( I know, I'm an achievement **** ) over the last two years. So it definitelly wasn't my first playthrough!

I had, however, deleted all of my ME data from my harddrive before I created this new character. Maybe that's why I capped at level 50?

Anyway, I've been thinking of doing one last playthough before the release of ME2. But I'm not sure if I'll bother with it if I can't make it to level 60 within that last playthrough.

So, do you think it's possible to make it from level 50 to 60 within one playthough if I have all the bonus XP achievements and follow your notes?

Like, completing all of the sidequests, including the collections missions and DLC's. Kill all enemies outside of the mako, open every crate, and kill every enemy.

It's easily possible.. since I've finished my first playthrough at almost lvl 51 (I had roughly ~300 xp missing for it) and did a rushed playthrough (only the main missions) and got to halfway through level 56, so I say that it's pretty easy to get to 60 in 2 playthrough doing everything :) (except Pinnacle Station which I don't own since I don't like that much the "training fields" kind.. if only there was some story instead of this!)

Okay. I sure hope so.

Though the gap between level 58-59 and 59-60 are pretty extreme if I remember correctly.

Thanks.

Very nice! excellent news!

My favourite Shepard is still my first one, thus capped at lvl 50. I've been meaning to replay that one to lvl 60, but I was also concerned that one more single playthrough would not be enough.

I was 20k EP short at last, Maybe with Pinnacle Station (or maybe just the Completionist Bonus) I'd have done it. Whatever, i got my game complete this time and will import it the way it is. After all i haven't done it for L60, but to get the game completed. (=

Correction.. halfway in level 57 on the second rushed playthrough... and since Jospex has put the fly in my ear.. I'm just going to do that second playthrough again.. picking the almost level 51 Shepard and doing a complete playthrough..

I'll report here when I'll get to 60 :)

(the only DLC that I have is Bring Down The Sky, that was included in the PC version)

I just recently finished my second playthru on my main character to get him up to level 60.  Almost 2 years after I started it!! lol Didn't even finish Eden Prime, so when I started again I was able to do absolutely EVERYTHING the way I wanted.

I started the second run at level 48 and made it to 60 half way thru Ilos, so the rest of the game was very nice not having to worry about hitting 60 and just able to play.

Then I should have no trouble hitting level 60 within one last playthrough. :)
Thanks!

Wow, SSinferno you started your 2nd playthrough at Level 48 and still got to Level 60? Congrats!! :)

I really wasn't sure that was possible, but again based on my post, I had 853,000 XP as I landed on Ilos. So if you take all the XP from the Geth on Ilos, the Trench Run, and the final Citadel battles, yeah -- that's a lot of extra XP there just in case. So your story definitely sounds plausible!

Emmebaragesi, yes you should definitely be able to do it. Just be thorough.

For those wondering, Pinnacle Station gives you ~2,000 XP for each mission you beat as #1. So that's 12 missions x 2,000 XP = 24,000 XP (not including additional XP from Ahern's final mission).

Yeah I really wasn't sure I would get it towards the end. I downloaded BDS and Pinnacle Station and completed those so my Soldier Shep would have the history for ME2 and everything completed. I hit level 50 right when I became a Spectre which was kinda cool.

And when I said have everything completed, I meant EVERYTHING. I used the Wiki page to make sure I found everything on every planet I went to for the second playthru.

It got to a point I had to write down what planets I had completed and which planets needed completed.

What's the advantage of importing your ME1 file to ME2?

Every single choice or action you made in ME1 will have an impact on your story in ME2.  Instead of the "Stock" story the writers have set.

I'm an idiot, and I didn't realize that you got extra XP for killing enemies outside the Mako. Consequently, I just beat the game on my second playthrough with 50k XP needed til level 60.

However, I still have a pre-Virmire save as well as a pre-Ilos save. Do you think, if I reload the Ilos save and kill all of the enemies on that planet that you can opt to kill using the Mako on foot, that it'll make up for the missing 50k XP? Or am I screwed?

Daaamn that's a lot to do to get to 60. 58 is about as far as I got for both vanguards, and I was stuck....

Thinking of quickly creating a femshep/sentinel in hopes to take into ME2.... but man.... I'd only have....8 days or so to beat ME

I think you might still be able to do it, but I'd use the pre-Virmire save just to be safe. A ton of enemies during the Mako run on Virmire that you can kill on foot. Then when you do the Trench Run on Ilos, get out and kill all the geth there -- tons more XP. Remember, you can damage those Armatures all the way down with the Mako, then get out and kill them on foot. Fastest/easiest way.

8 days is plenty to beat ME. :P Just sink 3 hours a day or so into it and you'll be fine! Use the wiki or a guide to help so there's no wasted time.

I currently need about 80k to reach level 60. I still have yet to finish about two missions in Pinnacle Stations, the collection missions & two random sidequests - as well as Ilos & Citadel.

I REALLY hope I can reach level 60, as I love Mass Effect but I don't think I can handle doing the whole game again because I was playing this playthrough as my "perfect" game with all the choices I want to import.

Way back when Mass Effect was still fresh I beat the game with my original Shephard twice. Once on normal and once on Insanity (I did a new game inbetween on hardcore). I got to level 60 on that second playthrough about halfway through the Citadel assault at the end. I did it completing all of the assignments except for two collection assignments. I also did it without the two DLCs and without getting out of the Mako to kill things for the extra XP. Point is, all you really need to be is mostly thorough to accomplish level 60 on that second playthrough.

I'm in the same situation as OP, where I started a New Game+ at 50 and was worried about getting to 60.I hit 59 shortly before killing Benezia on Noveria (last planet for me before Virmire). Almost all sidequests besides the collection ones are done, and I finished both DLCs. Hopefully I can hit 60 soon - I've taken to killing heavy turrets and thresher maws outside of the Mako, despite it being a royal pain in the *** to jump in and out of the tank while under fire to avoid environmental hazard levels.

The xp glitch on Therum (Liara's Dig Site) still works. If you have already beaten the game and are simply looking for free xp to hit lvl 60 for your ME2 import then it shouldn't be an ethical issue. The process is a bit tedious and boring after a while but it's the surest way of maxing xp on your first playthrough without jumping in and out of the mako and fighting thresher-maws on foot :P

I also reached lvl 60 in first two playthroughs without even completing the last DLC because I beat the game long before it came out. I also killed enemies outside of Mako and did every side quest. However, unlike main story, side quests and exploration were extremely boring. Scanning/Exploring planets for minerals was one of my most unpleasant experiences when playing Mass Effect. I read somewhere that if the save is imported, the character will start off with more minerals/xp and such. If that's indeed the case, my suffering was not in vain afterall.

But that's part of the fun killing Thresher Maws on Foot. That and Colosuses.

Assuming that you beat the game once already a new character can hit Lvl 58 in on playthrough.

This is interesting, I beat the game first on Casual, then on Hardcore, leaving me at level 59... both times through I completed all the sidequests and all the collections and all sorts of good stuff. It wasn't until I was nearly halfway through my third runthrough (on Insanity, just to get a stupid gamerpic) that I finally dinged at level 60.

Congrats to everyone who had an easier time of it than I. :)

EDIT:  Weird thing, I never killed things using the MAKO, as I was morally opposed to it.  By that I mean I was horrible at using the MAKO's cannon. :)  (So much easier to use a Level 10 Spectre assault rifle with 2 Frictionless Material Xs and a Lvl 7 Tungsten or Shredder round.)

Yeah I never understood how the XP work. I did two playthroughs and unlocked all Codex entries and did everything, I mean everything and both character had drasticly different SPs. I had one almost make Lvl 59 and the other was almost half way to Level 59.
