I would just like to know if having to go through all those mind numbing planetry assignments in order to get to level 60 for ME2 was worth it? I did not think so. My lvl 50 character (1st ever playthrough) got me started on i think lvl 2 on ME2. My lvl 60 character started me on lvl 5. The difference between lvl 2 and 5 on ME2 is about 25mins. It was a poor reward in my opinion.

I haven't tested this since I first completed ME2 the first time, but I did get 1000/1000 in the first try via importing a level 60 and doing everything in ME2.

Since then, with the exp bonus you earn in ME2 plus all the DLC, I would wager it's plausible to go from 1-30 in ME2 without importing at all (again, haven't tested, it just seems likely that you make up the 4 extra levels with the bonus and new content).

If that's the case, in theory folks can just do one ME1 playthrough with the choices they want, even *gasp* spend points on charm/intimidate since it doesn't matter if you max them. Even importing at level 35 shouldn't stop you from hitting level 30 in ME2.

That's right. I got to Level 30 in a single playthrough in ME2 without importing from ME1 or my previous ME2 character. That said, I did have the bonuses of having completed the game before and I think you're limited to Level 26 on your first ever playthrough anyway.

Definitely agree. I can't stand replayng the same character twice. If I'm playing the game again it's with a new character. After getting a Sentinel to level 57, I have no desire to slog through three dozen ore collection missions just to get him to 60 and drop three more points in spectre training.

@Talexe

I got all my achievements for ME2 on my first playthrough, including level 30 and insanity, so it's definitely not capped at 26 (although if you don't import, don't have the bonus unlocked, etc there might not be enough exp to get past 26 on that playthrough).

how did you unlock the 25% bonus xp on the first run?

I didn't. I made level 30 without it. I imported a 60 (which starts you at 5). What I'm saying is that I don't think I could have hit 30 that first time without importing a 60, but that now, with the bonus plus all the DLC, I think you could start at level 1 and still hit level 30.

The difference in the credits and mineral resources you get with a level 50 vs a level 60 does help with initial weapon purchases/research projects.  Minerals: 5K each for Level 50, 10K for Level 60, with an additional 50 K for completing ME2.  Credits: 30K for Levels 50-59, 50K for Level 60.
On the other hand, the ME1 Rich achievement alone is worth 100,000 credits, and is easier to do than reaching level 60, since you have to micromanage your items anyway. I did both, since I'm a completionist to a fault.

the better reward importing a 60 level character instead of a 50 level is the money... in me2 there isn't enough money to buy everything, even with the 60lvl bonus... but you can buy more things related to the 50lvl bonus

The money issue becomes less and less of an issue in ME2 with each mission DLC they add, though. The Kasumi DLC can net you 60,000 credits alone.

Hey everybody, first post :bandit:  Could somebody check if I get this right:

Basically I already completed one playthrough and got myself powergamer & completionist achivemenents [5% exp and 10% exp] unblocked.

Having this in mind, if I do another character from level 1 I should be able to hit lvl60 on two playthroughts for him (going on Hardcore first and Insanity second) if I do every side-quest, open every crate and kill most of enemies without using the mako, right?

Also I thought  is it worth to do all those mundane assignements just to start at lvl5 in ME2 [i didn't have the chance to play it yet, but I assume it is not much of a payoff]?

I guess in the end this will come down to the time i'll have to play ME1. If it's enought to get 2 full playthrough before buying Me2 - im for it, if not - oh well, right?

Thank you for all the feedback on this topic, you've already helped me with this thread alot.

Right now I'm working hard on getting all ME1 achievements. First playthrough I got about 650 GS or so, and I got to level 50 (I planned a lot, I'm getting all achievements in 3+1/10 playthroughs, using the same 2 squadmates, and that 1/10 part is for the ability achievements. I first did Casual, then Hardcore, then Insane). This is my 5th day (taking my time), and I'm 1/3 through my hardcore playthrough (did all missions up to but excluding Virmire), and I'm going to do all assignments next, so I think I'll make level 60. So I think you should get level 60 if you do it the same way I did.

And I'm a completionist, if you are too, be sure to get level 60 :).

Unless you are a completioninst for the sake of being one - don't do it. Not worth the time and effort since the prizzzes in Mass Effect 2 are pathetic.

But it's fun to do it for proving something. Especialy on insanity since to get maximum xp you never fight in MAKO... some fights gain a whole new level of masochism when Shepard and the others are on foot. Also, too bad there's no achivment for killing all Trashermaws in game.

Ok, so now I'm before Virimire on my first [new char from lvl1] playthrough with PwrGamer & Completionist achivements unblocked (10% exp +5% exp bonus). I've basicly did only main missions, almost none assignements, and im on lvl48 right now. But, in fact, I've killed over 90% of Mako enemies on foot and opened all containers on my way.

I believe now that if I just finish main storyline this way, then on my 2nd playthrough with this character, starting probably  lvl 50-52, I'll manage to get lvl60 on Insanity no prob.If not - I'll not cry, since you've guys pointed out that there is no real sense in getting lvl60 :)

Anyway, I need to replay with this character to do all the quests my way - I'm not Paragon nor Renegade only - probably like alot of you - I'm somewhere in the beetwen :) It's kind of a shame that it takes a full playthrough to unblock charm/intimidate to full levels.

Anyway, thanks for the replies! B)

Interesting point regarding thresher maws. do you know if there are a set number, or can infinite numbers spawn on repeated visits to planets with thresher nests????

If you want to reach level 60, I suggest doing three playthroughs where you don't finish any of the boring quests. I think it'll actually be quicker that way, and by the third playthrough you can reach max charm or intimidate.

Depending on how complete a play you do, and if you have any of the bonus XP achievements you will end up between 57-60 level. You should be able to hit 60 doing all your fights on foot, and opening everything for the xp and doing everything including the bonus Rachni world missions,Thorian creeper mission, killing all the thresher maws, waiting on extra geth destroyers in the last mission, and basically doing all the tricks to get maximum XP

I have Virmire, ilos, and the Citadel left, I'm playing on Veteran and kill every thing out side of the Mako. I'm going to hunt Threser Maws; and I have 396,847 exp left can i make level 60?

P.s. A list of Threser Maw world would be much appreciated.

I was able to get to level 53 on a new run in hardcore. I imported, switched to insanity, and I'm not even off the Citadel yet and already 56. And believe it or not, I haven't done any sidequest, other than recruitments.
As for ME2. On a brand new character on insanity without any DLC other than cerberus weapons, I was able to hit level 30 mid-last boss fight. My guess is that most of it comes down to what difficulty.

It's not that hard to Reach Level 60 on a second playthrough. Just make sure you reach 50 on the first run and do all the side quests (including all the scannings and tedious crate openings) and, like everyone says... kill everything outside of the Mako. By the time I reached Virmire (shortly before "meeting" Sovreign) I hit LVL 60. All I had left was the Citadel lockdown, Ilos and the final showdown. Plenty of time. I only did "Bring Down the Sky" as far as DLC but something tells me that, with all the time I had left, the DLC isn't really that necessary for the task. You must be thorough in the side quests (although for my second run I used maps to find all the crap so I wouldn't have to drive around like an idiot and waste time.)  It's a bit monotonous especially if you just finished your first playthrough and you want to reach the last level with the same choices you made originally intact. I played paragon the first time and realized I wanted all the same choices imported into ME2 and since I had "killed" a few people due to low charm or sheer ignorance (Kirrahe), I decided to play till LVL 60 doing the same crap all over again but this time with full charm and Kirrahe alive and well and ready to "hold the line."

Have fun.

It's possible, but you need to be sure to complete all of the quests. I was about 500 xp short of level 60 in my first two playthroughs. Be sure to talk to everyone, in addition to getting out of the Mako. The codex entries give you xp in line with your level. For example, first talk with Pressley in a new character nets 12 or so xp. First chat with him at level 55 with an imported character gets you about 400 or so xp (might be off, been awhile, but you get the idea). Don't skip those codex entries!
