Since Vivienne seems to be your damage mage companion, there is probably going to be another mage companion whose initial abilities are more focused on healing. (DA:I's Wynne)

So long as I can restat them to my specification like in DAO and DAA, then I'll
be happy. I found DA2's forcefully restricted skill trees both annoying and unnecessary.

That's kinda why I think there will be three from each class: two with fixed, "iconic" skillsets and one whose build can be customized to fill a need.

No I could not stand Kaiden. He annoyed me to the core of my body. And he´s voice was awful! But obviously people are different. Im happy you liked him and could "be with him" throughout the game.

I miss my Thane. He was screwed over.

If there are three companions from each class, even if the survey is totally accurate they still need to reveal a third mage somewhere along the line. At best there are two at the moment, with Vivienne and Dorian.

Having most or all of the party romanceable, but only by certain Inquisitors, would be awesome. So if you want to romance Varric, gotta be a fem Dwarf. Iron Bull, Qunari. etc. I kinda doubt it will happen, just because of the cost. But it would be ideal.

I like the unique skill trees they had in DA2. They just need the basics (a healer magic tree for instance) to be available to all characters in a class.

Personally, I do hope Leliana is back as a companion. She's completely changed her status since DA:O, and it's been ten years. She's older, more accomplished, and more set in her convictions (which could be different depending on DA:O), and generally has a whole new life. Plus, it would give you a companion that can talk a little about what's happened with the Warden, like Varric does for Hawke. She was my second (King-Consort) Warden's official mistress, so I'm interested in what she could have to say about it and how that would make her search for him (or any romanced Warden) more personal. She's got a lot of potential variance depending on how DA:O turned out.

So the nine +1 would probably be something like:

Warriors:
Grey Warden guy- S&S
Cassandra- Two hander
Iron Bull (with a name like that, I think warrior)- probably TH, but I hope Spear

Rogues:
Elf braided girl (looks awesome, could be Sara or could be an updated Ariana from Witch Hunt with DW)- DW daggers, looks like
Varric- Bianca
Painter girl (I hope)- hoping a new rogue weapon set, maybe a Rapier with Buckler or Main and Gauche?
Leliana (I hope)- Bow

Mages:
Vivienne- looks like damage focus, didn't notice anything particularly about her weapon

Personally I'd like Cole to be the dlc character (though I prefer all characters come with the main game). If he's as different a situation as it sounds like here, he'd be interesting to have. I have no preference on the other mage, but it's likely to be Dorian, unless Cole or painter girl turn out to be a mage. In that case, I'm hoping for Dagna just because she could be unique, but I really have no idea.

Painter girl is Scribe Girl, btw, but I'm hoping she's an artist as well as the group chronicler. We may even get a book version of the codex written and painted from her perspective. That would be cool. :) Cullen's just a mess to me now after DA2. I'm hoping he's not a companion, unless they go back to honoring his potential resolutions from the DA:O slides. In that case, he's a lot more interesting. I really would prefer he be involved in the Templar side of the mage war otherwise.

edit: Oh, forgot the ratios, since it's a topic of conversation here. That'd make it...
M:F 3:5, and if it turns out we get Cole and Dorian, that's 5:5.
W:R:M:U (Unique), 3:4:2:1 (whoever the mage turns out to be, we'll have at least two), assuming either Cole and Dorian or 3:3:2:2 if we were somehow to get Cole and Dagna and Painter Girl turned out a mage.

Romanceable: I have no idea, but honestly I could see the entire party being romanceable if they give them preferences, or most of both sexes as romanceable if they don't, so I dunno.

If I had my preference and a limit of two romanceables per gender as usual, I'd go with:
F: Elf girl and Painter girl
M: Grey Warden and probably Dorian and Cole (since he'd be the dlc, like they did with DA2)

Just replayed DAO as a female mage. I WANTS CULLEN. O.o
However, I expect that I will be more than satisfied with whatever character the devs dream up. They haven't ever disappointed yet.

I think the Grey Warden is meant to be an older character (was it Sheryl or Mary that mentioned they were using their grandfather as inspiration when writing a dialogue?) so I don't think he'd make a very plausible romance.

Cullen would be more likely, if he's in the game as a companion and not an agent (or something else entirely?), though we don't really know how those interactions or anything work yet. I think Dorian is more likely still, especially if they're playing the reference straight (so to speak) and writing him to be slightly hedonistic, or at least playful/brazen.

The gender balance thing is interesting, out of 9 companions I can only count three female characters so far (Sera, Vivienne and Cassandra), and there are six other (male) characters who are either confirmed as companions or look like being so (Varric, Iron Bull, Grey Warden, Cullen, Dorian, Cole).

The 'ratio' (for lack of a better concept) looks way off, so perhaps some of those male characters are actually agents (or have been cut entirely) - though only Dorian and Cole have been totally absent from the concept art they've been releasing, and Dorian *could* conceivably be the elven mage who has popped up fairly often.

Where is the source for all of this "Iron Bull" stuff? I haven't been following all of the new developments that closely... I was hoping for a female Qunari :\\

Presumably this guy:

Image IPB

The survey stated:

"The Iron Bull is a long way from home, and prefers it that way. A slap in the face of typically humorless Qunari, he loves drinking, killing, and looting-not necessarily in that order. The head of a vicious mercenary company, he’s known for excellent pay and brutal punishment. It’s been a ten year party, but the Bull may find that old loyalties die hard."

Ugh. He sounds like Oghren/Isabella. But I thought I heard somewhere that at *least* one of the leaked survey companions was going to be scrapped/changed... so maybe they'll give us a female Qunari. :wizard:

Well, he's already appeared in trailers so I doubt the Iron Bull (if he's still called that) was the character they scrapped, if they even scrapped anybody.

Allan also mentioned that the qunari we saw in the trailer was a distinct character, so at this point I think it's a safe bet that he's a companion - though not, perhaps, exactly like the description above.

I totally agree with you on this Elite.  I think it's unlikely that they will skew so heavily in one direction.  6 males to 3 females seems off to me.  I'm expecting also thinking that Cole is likely out and will be replaced with a female character instead.  Of course, that's total speculation since we have absolutlely nothing to go on for that, unless Scribe Girl isn't actually a Yeoman style character (but I really do think she is).

Hold on, in that description pf the iron bull, they say he is a Qunari, but also the head of a merc company?

Jeez, if they're going to conflate the race with the religion, why can't we do it too? -.-

I think the scrapped companion is likely Cullen; we'd have too many warriors otherwise.

Hmm, 9 companions sounds good (probably 10 with a DLC character). I hope we get some class balance (3 warriors, 3 rogues, 3 mages, and 1 unique class/skill set).

My Prediction: (though I'm probably wrong, it's fun to speculate)

Warriors:
Cassandra
Cullen
Elder Grey Warden

Rogues:
Varric
Dalish (Sera?)
Qunari (Iron Bull? Though he sounds more like a warrior)

Mages:
Vivienne
Magister (Dorian?)
Scribe Girl? (I don't really have any idea who the third mage could be)

DLC:
Cole (maybe he'll have some sort of rogue/mage combo)

Um, Morrigan has been in trailers too and she's not going to be a companion. It's possible Iron Bull is an agent of the inquisitor, like Leliana is expected to be.

Only if you assume that there will be 3 of each class.  That was the case in DA2 (if you count BOTH Carver and Bethany), but certainly wasn't the case in DA:O.

Warriors:
Alistair
Sten
Oghren
Dog
Shale

Rogues:
Leliana
Zevran

Mages:
Morrigan
Wynne

I know that some people argue that Dog and Shale aren't warriors because they use different skill trees, but they certainly fit that class better than rogues or mages and function exactly the same as a melee warrior.

I don't think that you can bank on it being evenly spaced across the three classes.  You can speculate, but not there really isn't any evidence to support it.

Leliana was especially called an agent of the Divine by Gaider in Monday's GI article. I doubt she's going to move into the Inquisition unless it's to spy over it (or chat with Cassandra).

Considering that the 3 official revealed companions were all seen together in screenshots, I'm wondering if  the Qunari dude is one. He might be an agent in charge or "rebuilding" going by the screenshots.

Have we seen any evidence of a third mage yet?  We've got several sources of information:

1.)  interviews and videos
2.)  gameplay footage
3.)  concept art
4.)  leaked survey

In any of those, have we gotten any indication of a third mage?
